Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Magnetic diode 10.12.2018

Electrical diodes, which conduct electricity in one direction and block it in the opposite direction, are one of the basic types of electronic components. In the vast majority of cases, diodes can be found in the "core" of any electronic chip or device, which fundamentally cannot work without these devices. In recent years, scientists have developed analogues of diodes that implement the function of one-way conduction for heat, light and sound waves, and recently physicists from the University of Innsbruck and the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information have created the first magnetic diode and demonstrated its performance in the laboratory.

"Our device makes it possible to transfer the magnetic field from the first magnetic element, for example, a permanent magnet or an inductor, to the second one. But when the roles of these two elements change, the transfer of the magnetic field is blocked," says Jordi Prat Camps, lead researcher. From a technical point of view, this means that the mutual magnetic connection between two elements, which under normal conditions is absolutely symmetrical, becomes radically asymmetric.

The key component of a magnetic diode is an electrical conductor moving at a constant speed in a certain direction through which an electric current flows. “When the conductor is close to the magnetic elements and moves at a given speed, the inductive coupling between the elements becomes unidirectional and a magnetic analogue of the diode is created,” says Jordi Prat Kamps.

Systems of two or more magnetic elements are now used in a variety of key technologies such as electric motors, transformers, magnetic storage devices, and magnetic resonance imaging machines. But all these technologies use elements that have symmetrical magnetic coupling. "The availability of a new magnetic component, the diode, could open up a whole range of new possibilities for existing technologies," says Gerhard Kirchmair. in one direction, from the charging station to the device being charged, but not vice versa.
