Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

1.1. General safety requirements are set out in the instructions "General safety requirements for labor protection for workers employed in logging operations".

2. Safety requirements before starting work

2.1. The driver is obliged to carefully check the condition of the fasteners, pipe connections, hoses, junction boxes of the attachments of the unit and the tractor itself, as well as the operation of the sound signal. Tighten loose nuts and bolts. It is forbidden to work on a faulty DO-36 unit without a signal.

2.2. A fire extinguisher must be installed in the cab of the DO-36 unit. The driver must make sure it is there.

2.3. All rotating and moving parts of the machine that can cause injury must be guarded. Protective metal grilles must be installed on the windshields of the unit.

2.4. The driver is obliged to clear the production site, where the tops of the whips are trimmed, and the access roads from debris.

2.5. After filling the unit with fuel and working fluid, it is necessary to wipe up any accidentally spilled fluid. Leakage of flammable liquid at the junction of pipes and hoses must not be allowed.

2.6. Before starting the engine, you must first check the neutral position of the control levers.

2.7. After starting the engine, the driver must check the operation of all mechanisms of the unit and process equipment at idle and make sure that they are in good condition.

2.8. If malfunctions are found and it is impossible to eliminate them on their own, the driver must inform the foreman or foreman about this.

3. Safety requirements during work

3.1. The driver of the unit must make sure that the timber transport has completely stopped and, upon receiving a permission signal from the driver, proceed to trimming the tops.

3.2. Before starting the movement, the driver must make sure that there are no people near the unit and in the path of its movement.

3.3. The cab door of the unit must be closed during operation.

3.4. When operating the DO-36 bucking and stacking unit, the following conditions must be strictly observed:

  • when moving the unit under its own power, the boom must rise to a level at which sufficiently good visibility is provided;
  • it is necessary to drive the unit on a bad road or over rough terrain only in first and second gears;
  • when performing the operation of trimming the tops, pushing the unit onto the road train should be carried out only in first gear;
  • working pressure in the hydraulic system should not exceed that specified in the passport;
  • the transported load must not exceed the load capacity of the unit specified in the technical passport.

3.5. In the process of cutting the tops of the whips on a timber carrier, as well as the subsequent laying of the top part of the whips in a stack, the operator of the DO-36 unit is prohibited from:

  • Troubleshoot and repair and adjust individual units on the go (to eliminate malfunctions, you must stop the machine and lower the grip to the ground);
  • replace the saw chain and adjust it with the engine running;
  • cross-cut timber that is loosely clamped in the grip; stand under the working bodies of the DO-36 unit, lubricate them or perform other work without installing stands;
  • stand under or near the load when it is lifted;
  • leave the unit unattended when the tractor engine is running;
  • during breaks in work and at the end of it, leave the boom with and without a load in a raised position;
  • crawl under the unit while the engine is running;
  • smoke when refueling the unit with fuel and hydraulic oil, use an open fire to heat the engine in the cold season;
  • get off the unit and sit on it on the go;
  • drive under high-voltage power lines with a distance between the wires and the upper part of the machine less than 2 m;
  • repair pipelines, hydraulic tanks and fuel tanks by welding without their preliminary cleaning and washing.

3.6. During the trimming period, the driver of the road train must be in the cab. The movement of a road train with cropped tops can be carried out upon receipt of an enabling signal from the driver of the DO-36 unit.

4. Safety requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If the chain of the saw mechanism breaks or the hoses of the hydraulic system break, the driver must urgently turn off the drive of the distributing mechanism that rotates the hydraulic pumps of the unit, or even turn off the engine.

4.2. In case of ignition of the unit, a fire extinguisher located in the cab must be used to extinguish the flame.

4.3. If the instruments indicate insufficient oil pressure in the engine or an elevated coolant temperature, you must immediately stop the unit and turn off the engine. Further, take measures to eliminate the identified malfunctions;

  • after cooling the engine, measure the oil level, inspect the oil pipeline system and eliminate the identified defects;
  • open the radiator cap without sharply unscrewing it, being careful of a strong release of hot vapors (hands must be protected by gloves) and pour in coolant.

4.4. If it is necessary to eliminate a malfunction that has arisen during operation and carry out maintenance, the driver must turn off the engine of the machine.

4.5. If the cabin door is jammed, it is necessary to use the exit through the opened windows, if it is impossible to use it, squeeze out or break the glass and leave the cabin.

4.6. The operation of the unit should be stopped during heavy rain, during a thunderstorm, heavy snowfall, thick fog (visibility less than 50 m), at night, if the illumination of the working areas is less than the artificial lighting established by the norms (less than 10 lux).

4.7. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.8. The driver must be able to provide first aid. Such assistance is provided immediately, directly at the scene and in the following sequence; first you need to eliminate the energy source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the saw mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, tractor, etc.). Assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person (in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound, if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; in case of open fractures, first bandage the wound and then apply a splint; in case of burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues).

If spinal injury is suspected, transport the victim only in the supine position on a rigid base.

4.9. After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Safety requirements at the end of work

5.1. The driver must:

  • place the DO-36 unit in the place designated for parking and lower the jaws to the ground;
  • check the neutral position of the loader and process equipment control handles;
  • turn off the hydraulic pumps, stop the engine, disconnect the battery, close the cab door with a lock;
  • clean the car from dirt and branches;
  • when parking in cold weather, it is necessary to drain the water from the radiator and engine cooling system, remove the battery;
  • make an external inspection of the unit and its attachments;
  • if malfunctions are found and it is impossible to eliminate them on their own, report to the mechanic or foreman.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

S2-LP - 433/868 MHz narrowband transceiver 11.03.2017

S2-LP is a new 433/868 MHz transceiver from STMicroelectronics, designed to create cost-sensitive IoT devices, but at the same time with high requirements for radio communication quality and consumption.

To what extent this was done can be assessed by looking at the impressive technical characteristics of the new microcircuit. The receiver sensitivity starts from -130 dBm, while the developer can work with a path bandwidth from one kilohertz. The output power is adjustable over a wide range - from -30 dBm to +16 dBm in 1 dBm steps. Thanks to the new class E amplifier, the current consumption at 10mW output power is only 10mA, while in receive mode the consumption is within 7mA. The microcircuit is the best in its class in terms of consumption in transmit mode.

Reducing the current draw of internal RF components often leads to reduced RF performance. However, the S2-LP transceiver performs well both in terms of link budget (> 140 dB RF link budget) and selectivity. Adjacent channel selectivity is 68 dB (@+-12.5 kHz), blocking is better than 80 dB at 2 MHz offset (@433 MHz)

The S2-LP transceiver can work with any external microcontroller. Control is performed in the most familiar way - via SPI with interrupts through customizable GPIO0 ... GPIO3 lines. To work with STM32 microcontrollers, there is a library and a set of examples for STM32Cube.

Features of the S2-LP transceiver:
