Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Operators of the crosscutting plant and the mechanism for piece-by-piece supply of whips must inspect and check the technical condition of the main components at idle. If defects are found, take measures to eliminate them; if it is impossible to cope on your own, report to the master.

2.2. The following are subject to check for serviceability and reliability of fastening:

  • guards for rotating units and parts;
  • electrical cables and hydraulic system connections;
  • braking system of the installation, providing a complete stop of the cutting body from the moment it is turned off for no more than 10 s;
  • lighting;
  • light and sound alarm;
  • a sawing device, especially a saw blade;
  • control and blocking system.

2.3. It is forbidden to work on faulty equipment.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. Operators must ensure that there are no people in the hazardous areas and give an audible signal to start work before starting the crosscutting machine and the whip feeder.

The following areas are considered dangerous:

  • separation and piece feed of whips;
  • moving logs and assortments along timber conveyors;
  • rotation of the saw blade;
  • waste and garbage conveyor or skip loader;
  • assortment drops.

3.3. It is allowed to work only with a straightened saw blade that does not have cracks, with well-sharpened and correctly set teeth.

3.4. To remove and install the saw blade and the fence, the simplest lifting mechanisms should be used: a crane-beam with a manual drive, a hoist, etc.

3.5. The bucking whip must be pushed in when the saw blade is in its extreme non-working position.

3.6. It is necessary to push the saw blade onto the whip after it has gained full speed.

3.7. During the operation of the crosscutting machine, the operator must be at the control panel and observe the operation of the machine's mechanisms.

3.8. If the trimming is stuck between the feeder and the receiving device, it is necessary to turn off the installation and, after the saw has completely stopped, remove the trimming with a hook.

3.9. Operators of the crosscutting plant and the mechanism for piece-by-piece supply of whips during operation are prohibited from:

  • be distracted from the performance of direct duties;
  • leave the cabin with the installation mechanisms turned on;
  • transfer control to persons who do not have the right to do so;
  • allow unauthorized persons to stay in the operator's room;
  • continue to work when people are detected in hazardous areas;
  • straighten whips or assortments on moving timber conveyors.

3.10. When the operator exits the cab, the crosscutting machine or the whip feeder must be turned off and the door locked. The cab door key must be kept by the operator.

3.11. During lubrication, adjustment, cleaning from sawdust, bark, as well as during minor repairs or inspection of individual components, work must be stopped, and the main switch turned off. It is possible to start lubrication, adjustment, cleaning and repair only after a complete stop of the rotating parts with a warning poster posted on the knife switch "Do not turn it on! People are working!". Manipulator, pressers, rollers, curtains and other mechanisms must be lowered; if this is not possible, support devices should be installed under them.

3.12. In the event of a power outage, the operator must turn off the control buttons on the remote control.

3.13. The operation must be stopped if any malfunctions of the following devices are detected:

  • waste collection unit;
  • sound and light alarm;
  • brakes;
  • saw blade guards;
  • lighting systems;
  • saw blade;
  • blocking systems;
  • hydraulic systems;
  • electrical appliances, wires and grounding.

If a malfunction is detected, the conveyor or skiploader must be stopped.

3.14. During the operation of skip loaders of the PS-3 (LV-175) type and waste disposal conveyors, the following requirements must be met:

remove and correct waste on the conveyor and skip loader only when they are completely stopped and when the saw blade is stopped;

to correct waste in the bunker of the skip loader should be from the place of the fenced area with the help of a shovel, hook or other devices;

when unloading the bunkers of the skiploader or conveyor, people must be at least 5 m away.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If the motor overheats, stop it and let it cool down. Do not cool the engine with water or snow.

4.2. If a fire is detected in the wiring, it is necessary to immediately stop the engine and turn off the breaker.

4.3. If an oil leak is detected from the hydraulic system pipelines, work must be stopped and the malfunction repaired.

4.4. On the signal "stop" the operator must immediately stop the installation, regardless of who gave this signal.

4.5. In the event of a fire, a fire extinguisher located in the operator's room must be used to extinguish the flame.

4.6. If it is necessary to eliminate a malfunction that has arisen during operation and maintenance, it is necessary to turn off the engine of the unit.

4.7. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.8. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.). The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Upon completion of work, you should:

  • stop all nodes of the cross-cutting plant and the mechanism for piece-by-piece supply of whips and turn off the main switch;
  • clean the mechanisms of sawdust, bark and other debris;
  • notify the foreman or the relevant work manager of the shortcomings in the field of labor protection.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Booking a ticket on the run 07.01.2012

Sheremetyevo became the first and so far the only airport in the world that checks in for flights via Skype.

It works like this. You make a Skype call to svo_checkin or svol_checkin and provide your passport details and flight number, after which you receive a boarding pass in BMP format. In fact, the user instructs the operators to fill out a questionnaire for him. Such a service can be useful for people who are late for a plane and register on the run.

The airport management predicts that up to 20% of passengers will use this service in the future.
