Fire and technical protection means include external and internal fire water pipelines, alarm and fire extinguishing installations, primary fire extinguishing means and are used in cases where it is impossible, according to the technology, to exclude the possibility of contact of a combustible medium with potential sources of ignition.

In the general case, premises, buildings, structures and equipment of categories A, B, C1-C3, as well as objects with a mass stay of people, are necessarily protected by such means. The need to equip facilities with an external fire-fighting water supply system and the calculation of its parameters is determined by SNiP 2.04.02-84 "Water supply. External networks and structures".

The procedure for equipping facilities with an internal fire water supply system and calculating its parameters (number of hydrants, water flow through hydrants, their installation locations, etc.) is determined by SNiP 2.04.01-85 "Internal water supply and sewerage".

Fire alarm systems are designed to detect a fire in the initial stage, transmit alarm messages about the place and time of its occurrence, and, if necessary, put into operation an automatic fire extinguishing and smoke removal system. Systems can be combined functions, i.e. fire protection. According to the principle of signal transmission, they can be manual and automatic. The latter react to the parameters of the environment changing during a fire: temperature, light radiation, the appearance of smoke. The detectors can also be combined. Manual call points give a signal after a person presses a special button.

Fire extinguishing installations are understood as a set of stationary technical means for extinguishing a fire by releasing fire extinguishing agents.

By way of actuation installations are divided into manual (with manual actuation) and automatic.

Type fire extinguishers are divided into installations:

  • water fire extinguishing (sprinkler, drencher, fire monitors);
  • foam fire extinguishing (sprinkler, deluge);
  • powder fire extinguishing;
  • gas (CO2, freon, nitrogen, steam, etc.) fire extinguishing.

The type of installation and fire extinguishing agent are selected taking into account the fire hazard, the physical and chemical properties of the produced, stored and used substances and materials and the type of protected material values stored in these objects (museums, book depositories, galleries, computer rooms, etc.).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

A new principle for placing batteries in electric vehicles 12.08.2020

China-based Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), a supplier of electric vehicle batteries, said it is working on a new technology that will allow cells to be integrated directly into the chassis, eliminating traditional cases that make batteries bulky.

The described approach will allow you to install more cells and increase the mileage per charge, which is very interested in manufacturers and consumers of electric vehicles. CATL estimates that electric vehicles with batteries built into the chassis will be able to have a range of more than 800 km. The company plans to bring the development to the market by 2030.

The new technology will allow EV battery manufacturers to participate in vehicle design early on. Currently, car manufacturers receive ready-made modules from battery manufacturers and "fit" them into the mechanical structure of the vehicle.

CATL supplies batteries to Tesla, Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG and recently signed a partnership agreement with Japan's Honda Motor.
