Fire hazard category - classification characteristic of the fire hazard of objects, determined by the quantity and fire hazardous properties of the substances and materials located (formed) in them, taking into account technological processes and located industries.

Fire hazard of a material (structure) is a property of a material or structure that contributes to the emergence of hazardous factors and the development of a fire.

According to the explosion and fire hazard, the premises are divided into categories A, B, C1-C4, D and D, and the buildings are divided into categories A, B, C, D and D.

The determination of the categories of premises is carried out by sequentially checking belonging to the categories given in Table. 6, - from the highest (A) to the lowest (D).

The category of a building is determined based on the categories of its premises.

The building belongs to Category Aif the total area of premises of categories A in it exceeds 5% of the area of all premises or 200 m². It is allowed not to classify a building as category A if the total area of category A premises in the building does not exceed 25% of the total area of all premises located in it (but not more than 1000 m²) and these rooms are equipped with automatic fire extinguishing installations.

Substances and materials capable of exploding and burning when interacting with water, atmospheric oxygen or with each other in such an amount that the explosion excess pressure in the room exceeds 5 kPa.
Б Explosive fire- dangerous	Flammable dusts or fibres, flammable liquids with a flashpoint greater than 28°C. Flammable liquids in such quantity that they can form explosive dust-air or vapor-air mixtures, when ignited, an estimated overpressure of the explosion in the room develops, exceeding 5 kPa.
В₁-В₄ Fire hazardous	Combustible and slow-burning liquids, solid combustible and slow-burning substances and materials (including dust and fibers), substances and materials that can only burn when interacting with water, atmospheric oxygen or with each other, provided that the premises in which they are available or apply, do not belong to category A or B.
Г	Non-combustible substances and materials in a hot, incandescent or molten state, the processing of which is accompanied by the release of radiant heat, sparks and flames; combustible gases, liquids and solids that are burned or disposed of as fuel.
Д	Non-flammable substances and materials in a cold state.

Buildings belong to Category Bif both conditions are met simultaneously:

a) the building does not belong to category A;

b) the total area of premises of category A and B exceeds 5% of the total area of all premises or 200 m².

It is allowed not to classify buildings as category B if the total area of premises of category A and B in the building does not exceed 25% of the total area of all premises located in it (but not more than 1000 m²) and these rooms are equipped with automatic fire extinguishing installations.

Buildings belong to category Bif both conditions are met simultaneously:

a) buildings do not belong to categories A and B;

b) the total area of premises of category A, B and C exceeds 5% (10% if there are no premises of category A and B in the building) of the total area of all premises.

It is allowed not to classify buildings as category C if the total area of premises of categories A, B and C in the building does not exceed 25% of the total area of all premises located in it (but not more than 3500 m²) and these rooms are equipped with automatic fire extinguishing installations.

Buildings belong to category Gif both conditions are met simultaneously:

a) buildings do not belong to category B and C;

b) the total area of premises of categories A, B, C and D exceeds 5% of the total area of all premises.

It is allowed not to classify buildings as category D if the total area of premises of categories A, B, C, and D in the building does not exceed 25% of the total area of all premises located in it (but not more than 5000 m²) and premises of category A, B, C are equipped with automatic fire extinguishing installations.

Buildings belong to category Dunless they are in category A, B, C or D.

For fire danger outdoor installations are subdivided into categories An, Bn, Vn, Gn and Dn (NPB105-03).
