Main task fire prevention is to prevent fire. The problem is solved by a fire prevention system, which includes the implementation of the requirements of instructions on fire safety measures developed at enterprises and organizations, the implementation of regime (restrictive) measures and is achieved by preventing the formation of a combustible environment (or the introduction of ignition sources into it).

Another task is to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of people and property. This is solved by the fire protection system, which in the general case is implemented by a set of technical, constructive and actual fire prevention measures.

Fire protection must be achieved using one of the following methods or a combination of them:

  • the use of fire extinguishing equipment and appropriate types of fire fighting equipment;
  • the use of automatic fire alarm and fire extinguishing installations;
  • the use of basic building structures and materials, including those used for lining structures, with normalized fire hazard indicators;
  • the use of impregnation of structures of objects with flame retardants and the application of fire-retardant paints (compositions) on their surfaces;
  • devices to limit the spread of fire;
  • organization with the help of technical means, including automatic, timely warning and evacuation of people;
  • the use of means of collective and individual protection of people from dangerous fire factors;
  • use of fire protection equipment.

Each facility must have such a space-planning and technical design that the evacuation of workers from it is completed before the maximum permissible values of hazardous fire factors, and if evacuation is inappropriate, the protection of workers remaining in the facility is ensured.

The applied means of collective and individual protection must ensure the safety of people during the entire time of action of fire hazards. Collective protection should be provided with the help of fireproof zones and other constructive solutions. Personal protective equipment should also be used for firefighters involved in fire fighting.

The system of smoke protection of objects should provide non-smoke, temperature reduction and removal of combustion products and thermal decomposition along the evacuation routes for a time sufficient for the evacuation of people, and (or) collective protection of people and (or) protection of material assets.

At each facility, timely notification of people and (or) signaling of a fire in its initial stage by technical or organizational means should be provided.

Organizational and technical measures for fire prevention and protection should include:

  • certification of substances, materials, products, technological processes, buildings and structures of objects in terms of ensuring fire safety;
  • organization of training of employees in the rules of fire safety at work;
  • development and implementation of fire safety norms and rules, instructions on the procedure for handling flammable substances and materials, on compliance with the fire regime and the actions of people in the event of a fire;
  • development, production and use of means of visual agitation to ensure fire safety;
  • the procedure for storing substances and materials, the extinguishing of which is unacceptable with the same means, depending on their physico-chemical and fire hazardous properties;
  • rationing the number of people at the facility according to their safety in case of fire;
  • development of measures for the actions of personnel in the event of a fire and the organization of evacuation of people;
  • determination of the main types, quantity, placement and maintenance of fire equipment, ensuring effective fire extinguishing (burning).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Asphalt cleans the air 07.07.2006

The Italian company "Ital-sementi" after ten years of scientific research has developed a road surface that purifies the air from automobile exhaust gases.

This is asphalt with the addition of nano-particles of titanium dioxide. Under the action of sunlight, a chemically active additive converts unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen and sulfur oxides into water, carbon dioxide and solid salts.

Experiments carried out in a sealed chamber showed that titanium asphalt, illuminated by fluorescent lamps, decomposes 400% of nitrogen oxides in 99 minutes. The remaining harmful gases, when the road surface is illuminated with sunlight (these experiments were carried out in natural conditions, on the road), decompose by 5%. It is calculated that if only 75% of the streets and squares of a big city are covered with new asphalt, the air in it will become twice as clean.

So far, 900 tons of titanium asphalt have been produced. Its deliveries are planned to 18 countries, including France, India and China.
