I. General Provisions

  1. The Laboratory Technician reports to _______.

  5. Must know:
  • documents, standards, regulations, instructions and other guidelines governing the conduct of laboratory analyzes and tests;
  • basic technological processes and production modes;
  • laboratory equipment and rules for its operation;
  • rules for drawing up technical documentation for laboratory tests and tests of the basis of labor legislation;
  • fundamentals of economics, scientific organization of labor and organization of production.
  1. Qualification requirements:
  • Laboratory technician of category I: secondary vocational education in the relevant field of study (bachelor or junior specialist). Work experience as a laboratory assistant - category II - at least 1 year.
  • Category II laboratory technician: secondary vocational education in the relevant field of study (bachelor or junior specialist) education - no requirements for work experience, for a junior specialist - work experience as a laboratory assistant - at least 2 years.
  • Laboratory technician: higher professional (technical) education without presenting requirements for work experience.

II. Official duties

The Laboratory Technician performs the following duties:

  1. Performs, under the guidance of a more qualified specialist, analyzes and tests to determine the chemical composition and basic properties of materials in accordance with the requirements of standards and specifications.
  2. Accepts technological samples and samples for analysis and testing.
  3. Prepares the results of analyzes and tests, keeps records of them, prepares technical documentation for the work performed by the laboratory.
  4. Timely informs the relevant departments of the enterprise about the results of analyzes and tests.
  5. Performs auxiliary and preparatory operations for particularly complex laboratory work.
  6. Participates in the development of new methods of chemical analysis, mechanical testing, technological sampling, metallographic studies.
  7. Monitors the serviceable condition of installations, instruments, tools and other laboratory equipment, performs simple adjustments and makes the necessary corrections to the technical documentation in accordance with the results of analyzes and tests.

III. Rights

The laboratory technician has the right to:

  1. Get acquainted with the draft decisions of the management of the enterprise regarding its activities.
  2. Participate in the discussion of issues related to the performance of his duties.
  3. Make suggestions for improving the work related to the provisions of this instruction.
  4. Within the limits of his competence, inform his immediate supervisor about all those identified in the course of his activities, and make proposals for their elimination.
  5. Require the management of the enterprise to assist in the performance of their duties.

IV. A responsibility

The laboratory technician is responsible

  1. For improper performance or non-performance of their official duties, as well as for non-use or directly to their rights provided for by this Job Description - to the extent determined by the current legislation of Ukraine.
  2. For offenses committed in the course of carrying out their activities - within the limits determined by the current administrative, criminal and civil legislation of Ukraine.
  3. For causing material damage - within the limits determined by the current labor legislation on labor of Ukraine.
