The current level of technical progress is impossible without the widespread introduction of electrical equipment, which in turn necessitates continuous improvement of the requirements for its safe maintenance and protective equipment.

Work in the field of electrical safety should be based on a thoughtful, clear, specific system of measures that ensures the complete and accurate implementation of the "Rules for the technical operation of consumer electrical installations" and the "Safety Rules for the operation of consumer electrical installations". Particular attention should be paid to the management of electrical facilities to the strictest compliance with the requirements of these Rules regarding the maintenance and operation of electrical networks and stations, including switchgear, where, according to statistics, accidents most often occur. A large number of accidents occur during the maintenance and repair of an electric drive, ballasts, electric lighting, welding machines, electrified vehicles, electrical equipment, lifting and transport mechanisms, hand-held portable tools, and high-frequency installations.

Voltage electrical installations are divided into two groups: voltages up to 1000 V and over 1000 V. Practice shows that electrical injuries, as mentioned above, often occur in electrical installations with voltages up to 1000 V.

Most of the accidents occur due to the low level of organization of work, gross violations of the Rules, including:

  1. Direct contact with open current-carrying parts and wires.
  2. Touching current-carrying parts, the insulation of which is damaged.
  3. Touching metal parts of equipment that accidentally become energized.
  4. Touching live parts with objects with low insulation resistance.
  5. Absence or violation of protective grounding.
  6. Incorrect voltage supply during repairs or inspections.
  7. Effects of electric current through an arc.
  8. The impact of step voltage, etc.

An electrician was injured in the small-scale casting section of the iron foundry, who, on the instructions of the master, replaced burned-out electric lamps. For this purpose, he used a ladder, which, when replacing each lamp, was supported by the starting equipment of an electric hoist moving along a closed elliptical monorail. At the same time, the voltage from the trolleys was turned off each time the lamp was replaced and turned on again to move the hoist to the next lamp. During the replacement of the next lamp, the electrician took his hand on the trolls, which was under voltage this time, and was shocked.

The accident occurred as a result of a gross violation of the Rules: the voltage was not previously turned off, the switch drive was not locked in the off position, the fuses were not removed, a warning poster was not posted on the switch, protective equipment was not used, the second electrician did not participate in the work.

Another example of an accident is from the practice of operating electrical installations over 1000 V.

During preventive work in the cell of the oil switch of the 6 kV switchgear, a trainee was struck by an electric current. Preventive work in the oil circuit breaker cell was carried out with gross violation (by verbal order of the senior foreman of the electrical department): the voltage was partially removed, the work was not formalized in the operational log or order, there was no on-duty operational personnel, At the same time, live parts under voltage and accessible to accidental touch, no warning poster posted. The interns were allowed to work without testing their knowledge of the "Rules for the technical operation of consumer electrical installations" and "Safety regulations for the operation of consumer electrical installations".

Practice more than convincingly shows that a clear organization of work, conscientious implementation of the Rules, high discipline and responsibility of managers and workers are a reliable basis for safe work in electrical installations.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Self disintegrating phone 02.01.2007

The problem of recycling used mobile phones is acute all over the world. Disassembling them into parts with the possibility of reusing suitable components, remelting polymer parts and burying toxic waste is a laborious and expensive business.

A group of students from the University of Helsinki, in collaboration with the Finnish company Nokia, has created a prototype phone that disassembles itself when heated. Springs made of a metal alloy with shape memory are built into the case. At a certain temperature, they straighten and fall apart the body.

The printed circuit boards with the electronics are reinforced with screws made of a polymer that loses its strength at the same temperature, so that when heated, the phone breaks into pieces. However, it is better not to leave such a device, for example, in the sun behind the glass of a car. However, this is not useful for ordinary phones either.
