There are several classifications of disasters.

All disasters can be divided into natural, artificial and social.

Natural, not dependent on human activity, natural disasters (natural disasters):

  • meteorological - storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, frosts, droughts, extraordinary heat, fires;
  • telluric and tectonic - volcanic eruptions, earthquake;
  • topological - floods, mudflows, landslides, snow falls.

Artificial, caused by human activities, industrial (technogenic) disasters:

  • • transport - air and space, rail, road, river and sea fleet (transport);
  • • production: with the release of energy, mechanical, chemical, radiation, thermal, bacteriological agents;
  • • specific - epidemics, wars.

Социальные - hunger, terrorism, civil unrest, drug addiction, substance abuse.

The Disaster Medicine Service has developed emergency criteria. The presence of one of the emergency criteria presented in Table 6 gives grounds for the disaster medicine service to talk about the presence of an emergency and the need to register it.

The next classification under consideration - medical-tactical - covers several criteria that are important for organizing assistance to victims from the disaster medicine service (MCS) (Fig. 9).

According to the scale of distribution, taking into account the severity of the consequences, emergencies can be classified as follows:

  • local - have consequences that do not go beyond the workplace, estate, apartment;
  • object, when the consequences are limited to the boundaries of the object of the economy and can be eliminated at the expense of its forces and means;
  • local - have a scale of distribution within the settlement;
  • territorial - spreading on the territory of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, including a large city, administrative district, several districts; can be eliminated at the expense of forces and means of the region;
  • regional - their consequences cover several areas and can be eliminated at the expense of the forces and means of the region or its constituent entities of the Russian Federation;
  • national, or federal - the consequences extend to several economic regions (regions), but do not go beyond the borders of the country, are eliminated by the forces and means of the state;
  • global - go beyond the borders of the country and spread to other states, are eliminated both by the forces of each state on its territory, and by the forces and means of the international community.

Another classification of disasters - natural and man-made emergencies - shown in Fig. ten.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Record of the lowest artificially created temperature 28.09.2021

Physicists from Germany have managed to get the lowest temperature recorded in the history of science, just 38 picokelvins, 38 trillionths of a degree above absolute zero. Their experiment used the free-falling process of a quantum gas cloud and turning the magnetic field on and off in order to slow down the atoms of the gas almost to a complete stop of their thermal motion.

The point of absolute zero, -273.15 degrees Celsius, is the lowest temperature that can be obtained according to all the canons of thermodynamics. At such a temperature, the thermal motion of atoms stops completely and these atoms cease to have any kinetic energy, which should lead to the appearance of very strange effects. However, reaching the point of absolute zero and below is unattainable in practice due to the fact that it is physically impossible to take absolutely all of their kinetic energy from atoms.

However, scientists are constantly trying to get closer to the point of absolute zero, a few years ago scientists from Harvard successfully performed the "coldest" chemical reaction at a temperature of 500 nanokelvins, 500 millionths of a degree above absolute zero. Somewhat later, experiments were carried out at the Cold Atom Lab aboard the International Space Station at a temperature of 100 nanokelvins.

However, the temperatures mentioned above are quite high compared to the latest achievement of German scientists. And in order to get that temperature, the scientists used a cloud of 100 rubidium atoms trapped in a magnetic trap inside a vacuum chamber. First, a cloud of atoms was cooled to a temperature at which a so-called Bose-Einstein condensate formed, all of whose atoms have a quantum relationship. Due to this relationship, the entire cloud of condensate behaves like one large atom, which makes it possible to see the manifestation of quantum effects on a macro scale.

The Bose-Einstein condensate was formed at a temperature of two billionths above the absolute zero point, but it was not yet cold enough. The experiment was carried out in a special Bremen Drop Tower, which has a vacuum chamber with magnetic traps, 120 meters high, in which free-fall experiments are performed. And while the cloud of the Bose-Einstein condensate fell freely under the influence of gravity, scientists turned on and off the magnetic strictly at pre-calculated points in time.

When the magnetic field was turned on, the Bose-Einstein condensate cloud contracted somewhat. When the magnetic field was turned off, the condensate cloud expanded. The moments of turning on and off the magnetic field were synchronized in such a way that the effect exerted by this led to an almost complete stoppage of the movement of condensate atoms, which means an effective decrease in temperature.

During such an experiment, scientists managed to achieve and maintain a record low temperature for 2 seconds. However, the calculations of the created mathematical models showed that in space in conditions of microgravity or weightlessness on board the satellite, for example, such a temperature can last for 17 seconds, which will be enough to conduct very complex experiments.
