Focus Description:

The magician shows a notepad and writes numbers from one to eight, each on a separate piece of paper. Having numbered the leaves, he folds them in half, then in quarters, and the viewer folds them into a scarf. He then writes an additional, predicted number on the next piece of paper, which he does not show to the audience.

The magician folds the piece of paper and hands it to the spectator. He asks another spectator to take one of the eight pieces of paper from the scarf. Then the magician opens the handkerchief to reveal that there are only seven pieces of paper left. The audience unfolds pieces of paper - each one with their own.

The prediction is fulfilled: on the “freely” chosen piece of paper there is the same number as on the piece of paper with the prediction!

Focus secret:

The disadvantage of the trick is that working with multi-colored squares is more spectacular, and the action can be watched from a great distance if you show it in a large hall. The advantage of the option with numbers is that this trick “looks” like a complete impromptu, which does not require special squares. In addition, you can open the handkerchief so that all the remaining notes fall out onto the table after the viewer makes his choice.

Before the presentation, write eight notes with the same number, say the number five. Fold all the notes and place them in the secret pocket of the prepared scarf. Then put the handkerchief in your pocket.

1. Show the audience a notebook and openly write numbers from one to eight on different pieces of paper. After writing the number 1, tear off the piece of paper, fold it in four and place it on the table. Then write 2, tear off the piece of paper, fold it and put it on the table next to the first piece of paper. Continue until you have eight pieces of paper with different numbers on them.

2. Then take the scarf out of your pocket and fold the scarf into a “bag”, holding it by the four corners. Place the eight folded pieces of paper in the handkerchief, but not in the secret pocket.

3. Explain to the viewer what he should do next. Ask him to take one of the leaves out of the scarf. He must hold it tightly in his hand so that no one sees what the number is written on it until the end of the trick. By explaining to him in detail what he needs to do, you show it at the same time. Place your hand in the “bag” (be careful: not in the secret pocket) and take out one of those pieces of paper that has different numbers on it. Having completed the explanation, lower your hand into the “bag” again, ostensibly in order to put the piece of paper back. In fact, you secretly move the folded piece of paper into the Palm-Fingers position and take out your hand as if it were empty.

4. Note. It will be quite easy for you to do this, since at the moment the audience is not expecting a trick.

5. Take the pencil out of your pocket with the hand that contains the piece of paper, leaving the piece of paper in your pocket. Next, you need to “glare” at the viewer in order to “perceive the vibrations” of his future actions. Then take a notepad and write a prediction (number 5) on a piece of paper. Tear it off, fold it, and pass it to another viewer.

6. Next, invite the first spectator to put his hand in the scarf and take out one of the leaves.

7. Now open the scarf, holding it by the corners with your right hand (so that the “secret” leaves do not fall out of the scarf), and pour the seven remaining leaves from the scarf onto the table.

8. Put the handkerchief in your pocket (along with the secret leaves). With your right hand, take the leaves from the table and, while counting, place them in your left hand without unfolding them. Remind the spectator that he could choose any of the eight pieces of paper and place them openly in his pocket.

9. Invite the second spectator to unfold the piece of paper with the prediction and read the prediction out loud. Reemphasize the freedom of choice that was given to the first viewer. Ask him to unfold the piece of paper and read which number he “freely” chose. The two numbers will match! You have successfully completed another demonstration of your supernatural abilities.

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Implanted brain stimulator 30.04.2024

In recent years, scientific research in the field of neurotechnology has made enormous progress, opening new horizons for the treatment of various psychiatric and neurological disorders. One of the significant achievements was the creation of the smallest implanted brain stimulator, presented by a laboratory at Rice University. Called Digitally Programmable Over-brain Therapeutic (DOT), this innovative device promises to revolutionize treatments by providing more autonomy and accessibility to patients. The implant, developed in collaboration with Motif Neurotech and clinicians, introduces an innovative approach to brain stimulation. It is powered through an external transmitter using magnetoelectric power transfer, eliminating the need for wires and large batteries typical of existing technologies. This makes the procedure less invasive and provides more opportunities to improve patients' quality of life. In addition to its use in treatment, resist ... >>

The perception of time depends on what one is looking at 29.04.2024

Research in the field of the psychology of time continues to surprise us with its results. Recent discoveries by scientists from George Mason University (USA) turned out to be quite remarkable: they discovered that what we look at can greatly influence our sense of time. During the experiment, 52 participants took a series of tests, estimating the duration of viewing various images. The results were surprising: the size and detail of the images had a significant impact on the perception of time. Larger, less cluttered scenes created the illusion of time slowing down, while smaller, busier images gave the feeling of time speeding up. Researchers suggest that visual clutter or detail overload can make it difficult to perceive the world around us, which in turn can lead to faster perception of time. Thus, it was shown that our perception of time is closely related to what we look at. Larger and smaller ... >>

New technology for cooling things with ions 27.07.2023

Researchers from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California at Berkeley (USA) have presented an innovative cooling method that is based on the phase changes of materials and uses the principles of conservation and release of energy. This method opens up the potential for efficient and sustainable cooling for domestic and industrial use.

The research focuses on using the effect of phase changes, such as the transition from solid ice to liquid water, to create a cooling effect. When the temperature rises to cause the ice to melt, heat is absorbed from the environment, resulting in efficient cooling.

One way to activate the phase change is to add ions or charged particles. This can be done, for example, by sprinkling roads with salt to prevent ice formation. The researchers proposed an ionocaloric cycle based on this principle that can effectively compete with existing refrigerants.

Modeling of the ionocaloric cycle and experiments using salt showed the promise of this technique. By changing the melting temperature of the material by applying a current, the researchers achieved a significant temperature shift. So, using less than one volt of charge, it was possible to achieve a temperature shift of 25 degrees Celsius.

This new technology has the potential to replace existing refrigeration systems, such as vapor compression, which depend on gases with a high global warming potential. Such methods become especially relevant in the context of international agreements aimed at reducing emissions of harmful substances.

The next step for researchers is to translate the results from the lab into practical commercial systems. The successful implementation of this technology can significantly influence the future of heating and cooling systems, turning them into more efficient and environmentally friendly processes.
