A person recovers much faster if he attributes his recovery to his own efforts rather than to medication. For example, if a smoker stopped smoking on his own, and not because of the effects of the pills, then he is much more likely not to start smoking again. It is the same with any other disease: the effect is incomparably stronger, adaptation is faster, and the result is more stable if a person considers recovery to be the result of his own efforts, and not external influences.

One of the most important conditions adaptation after trauma is gaining a sense of control over the future, while what this control will be - real or illusory, is absolutely unimportant. During the period of the stress factor and for some time after it, a person loses ideas about his own security.

A metaphorical comparison of the psyche with the surface of a lake is known: when the lake is calm, it is able to correctly reflect reality. If there are waves on the lake, then reality is reflected already distorted and it is clear that the reaction to it cannot be adequate either. The setting "works" well: "The calmer you are, the more chances you have to survive and help your loved ones survive." But that's the way it is. As mental comfort is gained, nightmares disappear, normal sleep is restored, enuresis stops in children. The exhausting feeling of anxiety, depriving sleep and appetite, goes away.

Each person seeks to overcome the crisis situation in a certain way (model), rationalizing what is happening to him. Among these models, A. Dorozhevets distinguishes moral, compensatory, educational and medical.

Moral pattern: "I am weak. But I am ready to solve my own problems. Others should only encourage and support me."

Compensatory model: "I am a victim. Events have happened to me that are beyond my control, let others teach me how to deal with them, then I will do something myself."

Enlightenment model: "I am guilty. Others should guide me, control me, tell me what to do."

Medical model: "I'm sick, I'm not responsible, treat me."

The main thing to remember if you want to help a person overcome a crisis situation in this case is the choice of an impact strategy in accordance with his behavior model.
