In the life cycle, a person and his environment form a constantly operating system. "man - environment".

Habitat - the environment surrounding a person, determined at the moment by a combination of factors (physical, chemical, biological, social) that can have a direct or indirect, immediate or remote impact on human activity, his health and offspring.

Acting in this system, a person continuously solves at least two main tasks: provides his needs for food, water and air; creates and uses protection from negative influences from both the environment and its own kind.

The negative impacts inherent in the environment have existed for as long as the world has existed. Sources of natural negative impacts are natural phenomena in the biosphere: climate change, thunderstorms, earthquakes, etc.

The constant struggle for their existence forced a person to find and improve means of protection from the natural negative effects of the environment. For many centuries, the human habitat has slowly changed its appearance and, as a result, the types and levels of negative impacts have changed little. From the middle of the XIX century. began an active growth of human impact on the environment. In the XX century. zones of increased pollution of the biosphere arose on Earth, which led to partial, and in some cases to complete regional degradation. These changes were largely facilitated by: high rates of population growth on Earth and its urbanization; growth in consumption and concentration of energy resources; intensive development of industrial and agricultural production; mass use of means of transport; growth of expenses for military purposes and a number of other processes. The reasons for the population explosion were advances in medicine, an increase in the comfort of work and life, the intensification and growth of agricultural productivity.

Urbanization contributes to an increase in productive activity in many areas, solving social, cultural and educational problems of society, while continuously worsening living conditions in the regions, destroying the natural environment in them. The increase in the population of the Earth and military needs stimulate the growth of industrial production, etc., leading to an increase in the production of energy and the consumption of raw materials. The development of agriculture is associated with the use of mineral fertilizers and pesticides, which, by increasing soil fertility and fighting pests, are harmful to human health.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Movement speed record using magnetic levitation 26.04.2016

The Shanghai Maglev, the world's first commercial maglev railway line, holds the maglev continuous speed record of 431 km/h. (The one-time record for passenger trains was set in Japan last year at 603 km/h.) But the absolute record belongs to the 846 US Air Force test squadron at the Holloman Air Force Base near the city of Alamogordo (New Mexico), which is engaged in "horizontal flights" - launching special rocket sleds along various high-speed tracks.

The most famous is the 6m Holloman High Speed Test Track, which set the world rocket sled speed record of Mach 212 or 2003 m/s in 8,6. And on another track, 2 meters long, equipped with superconducting magnets, the 885 Test Squadron just set a new world record for a magnetic levitation sled - 640 km/h. Moreover, this is the second record in a row - a week earlier, testers dispersed a magnetic sled weighing 846 kg to a speed of 1018 km / h. The previous record, 907 km/h, set at the same test site, lasted more than two years.

It took military engineers six months to prepare the current record races. To ensure superconductivity, the magnets were cooled with liquid nitrogen to plus four degrees Kelvin. Despite the impressive speed, the engineers of the test squadron believe that this is not the limit. Their goal is to achieve hypersonic speeds of Mach 10 or 12 km/h, and designers are already working on using lighter materials in the sled for the next record.
