A new type of tablet from Lenovo

11.09.2016

Lenovo has introduced Yoga Book - a new type of tablet, as it was dubbed by the Western media. The manufacturer himself claims that the work of the Yoga Book is fundamentally different from how tablets of a similar form factor already present on the market work.

Yoga Book consists of two halves connected by a branded hinge, similar to a wristwatch strap. The company already uses such a hinge in its convertible Yoga laptops, making them easily recognizable in the market.

The first half of the Yoga Book contains a touch screen, the second half is a touch area across the entire surface area, on which, like on the screen, you can also write with a stylus. When laptop mode is activated, LEDs in this half turn on, which illuminate the buttons of the touch keyboard. The touch area turns into a touch keyboard.

Lenovo showed several use cases for the Yoga Book. The first and easiest scenario is a laptop. The second scenario - half thrown for half, tablet mode with a touch screen. The third scenario is the most interesting. In it, the device is proposed to be placed on the table in expanded form. Next - put a sheet of paper on the half with the touch area. You can write on this sheet of paper with a stylus and the tablet will automatically recognize this text through the paper.

The stylus for the Yoga Book is unusual: in addition to its standard role, it can write with ink, like a fountain pen. Thus, in the last scenario, the user will write on a piece of paper, he will receive a copy of the handwritten document, and a recognized copy in electronic form.

The Yoga Book has a 10,1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The amount of RAM is 4 GB, the amount of flash drive is 64 GB. The novelty is equipped with an Intel Atom X5 processor. Depending on the configuration, the computer may be equipped with the Microsoft Windows 10 or Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The company said that the Android firmware is customized, with support for all of the specified operating scenarios.

The Yoga Book will be available in September 2016 for €499 for the Android version and €599 for the Windows version.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Atomic clocks confirm the theory of relativity 22.03.2019

The reliability of watches is supported by a principle known as Lorentz symmetry. This principle was the basis for Einstein's special theory of relativity, which describes the physics of travelers traveling at nearly the speed of light.

Lorentz symmetry states that the rules of physics should remain the same whether you are standing still or moving at breakneck speed, and no matter which direction you are oriented. The clocks kept running together as the Earth rotated, supporting this idea.

Two ytterbium ions - positively charged atoms - absorbed and emitted light at a certain frequency, functioning like a ticking clock hand. The ions, oriented in different directions, rotated as the Earth rotated, making a complete cycle every day. If the ticking of atomic clocks changed depending on their orientation in space, the experiment would show a daily change in the relative frequencies of two clocks - a violation of Lorentz symmetry. But the atomic clocks converged within one tenth of a quadrillionth of a percent, about 100 times the accuracy of previous Lorentz symmetry tests.
