About 7 million are currently known. chemicals and compounds, of which approximately 60 thousand are used in human activities and have a different effect on the human body.

Harmful is a substance that, upon contact with the human body, can cause injuries, diseases or deviations in health, detected both in the process of contact with them, and in the long-term life of the present and subsequent generations.

Chemical substances of organic, inorganic and organoelement origin depending on their practical use classified into:

1) industrial poisons used in production (organic solvents, fuels, dyes);

2) pesticides used in agriculture (pesticides, insecticides, etc.);

3) medicines;

4) household chemicals used in the form of food additives (acetic acid), sanitation, personal hygiene, cosmetics, etc.;

5) biological plant and animal poisons contained in plants and fungi, animals and insects;

6) toxic substances (sarin, mustard gas, phosgene, etc.).

All harmful substances have a toxic effect on the human body, which is characterized by toxicometric indicators, according to which substances are classified as extremely toxic, highly toxic, moderately toxic and low toxic. The effect of the toxic action of various substances depends on the amount of the substance that has entered the body, its physical properties, duration of intake, interaction with the biological environment of the body, gender, age, individual sensitivity, routes of entry and excretion, distribution in the body, as well as meteorological conditions and other related factors. environment. Poisons have a general toxic effect and a selective effect.

General toxic effect of poisons:

1) nerve agent (suffocation, convulsions);

2) skin-resorptive (inflammatory and necrotic changes);

3) general toxic (hypoxic convulsions, coma, cerebral edema); tear and irritant (irritation of external mucous membranes); mental (impaired mental activity, consciousness).

Selective action of poisons:

1) cardiac with a predominant cardiotoxic effect (drugs, plant poisons, metal salts);

2) nervous, causing a violation of predominantly mental activity (carbon monoxide, alcohol, drugs, etc.);

3) hepatic (chlorinated hydrocarbons, phenols, aldehydes, etc.);

4) renal (heavy metal compounds);

5) blood (aniline and its derivatives, nitrites, etc.);

6) pulmonary (nitrogen oxides, ozone, phosgene).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Nuwa Pen digitizes handwritten text in real time 22.05.2023

Nuwa Pen, developed by the Dutch startup of the same name, is an artificial intelligence ballpoint pen. It has built-in electronic elements, but retains the usual writing functions - for those who, in the era of computers and voice input, still prefer handwriting rather than typing on the keyboard.

The gadget is made in the format of a classic pen, but thanks to the electronic filling, it allows you to instantly digitize handwritten text. An important difference between the device and its analogues is that it can be written on ordinary paper, and not only on special paper. The pen was developed by a startup of the same name from the Netherlands.

It will be produced in an aluminum case with a length of 150 millimeters and involves the use of replaceable D1 format ink cartridges.
At the bottom there are three cameras and an IR LED so that the pen can be used in low light conditions.

The pen is powered by an Arm Cortex M4 chip and uses specially designed software to recognize text and transmit its digital version to a mobile application via the Bluetooth LE protocol. The information is stored on the company's server, and the pen itself has a built-in storage of 2 gigabytes. In the saved texts, you can find the necessary fragments, as well as share what you have written.

The developers plan to ensure the compatibility of the gadget with at least 100 applications and platforms.

The pen works on a battery with a capacity of 100 milliamp-hours, and 15 minutes of connection to the charger is enough for 2 hours of operation. The device weighs only 28 grams and will be available in two colors - ebony and ivory.

The pen is currently on pre-order on Kickstarter for $197. As a bonus, backers will receive an annual subscription to special features and three replacement ink cartridges. The Nuwa Pen will then go on sale for $329 and a subscription for $2,99 per month.
