Axiom about potential danger. Basics of safe life

Fundamentals of Safe Life Activities (OBZhD)

One of the main concepts of life safety is axiom about potential danger. The action of this axiom extends to the system "man - environment". The habitat should be understood as the environment of both natural and anthropogenic origin. The axiom predetermines that all human actions and all components of the environment (primarily technical means and technologies), in addition to positive properties and results, have the ability to generate traumatic and harmful factors. At the same time, any new positive action or result is inevitably accompanied by the emergence of new negative factors.

Potential hazard lies in the hidden, implicit nature of the manifestation of dangers. For example, we do not feel until a certain point an increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air. Normally, atmospheric air should contain no more than 0,05% carbon dioxide. Constantly in a closed or poorly ventilated room in which there are a sufficiently large number of people (for example, in a design office), the concentration of carbon dioxide increases. It has no color, no smell, and an increase in its concentration will manifest itself as fatigue, lethargy, and a decrease in efficiency. But in general, the body of a person systematically staying in such conditions will react with complex physiological processes: a change in the frequency, depth and rhythm of breathing (shortness of breath), an increase in heart rate, a change in blood pressure. Such a state is called hypoxia, or oxygen starvation, and may lead to a decrease in attention, which in certain areas of activity can lead to injuries, etc.

Potential danger as a phenomenon is the possibility of human exposure to adverse or life-incompatible factors.

The axiom of potential danger provides quantitative assessment of the negative impact, which is estimated by the risk of causing one or another damage to health and life. Risk is defined as the ratio of certain undesirable consequences per unit of time to the possible number of events.

The concept is recognized in world practice acceptable risk i.e., the risk at which protective measures allow the achieved level of safety to be maintained. The degree of risk is estimated in world practice for various types of activities by the probability of deaths.

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Controlling objects using air currents 04.05.2024

The development of robotics continues to open up new prospects for us in the field of automation and control of various objects. Recently, Finnish scientists presented an innovative approach to controlling humanoid robots using air currents. This method promises to revolutionize the way objects are manipulated and open new horizons in the field of robotics. The idea of controlling objects using air currents is not new, but until recently, implementing such concepts remained a challenge. Finnish researchers have developed an innovative method that allows robots to manipulate objects using special air jets as "air fingers". The air flow control algorithm, developed by a team of specialists, is based on a thorough study of the movement of objects in the air flow. The air jet control system, carried out using special motors, allows you to direct objects without resorting to physical ... >>

Purebred dogs get sick no more often than purebred dogs 03.05.2024

Caring for the health of our pets is an important aspect of the life of every dog owner. However, there is a common assumption that purebred dogs are more susceptible to diseases compared to mixed dogs. New research led by researchers at the Texas School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences brings new perspective to this question. A study conducted by the Dog Aging Project (DAP) of more than 27 companion dogs found that purebred and mixed dogs were generally equally likely to experience various diseases. Although some breeds may be more susceptible to certain diseases, the overall diagnosis rate is virtually the same between both groups. The Dog Aging Project's chief veterinarian, Dr. Keith Creevy, notes that there are several well-known diseases that are more common in certain breeds of dogs, which supports the notion that purebred dogs are more susceptible to disease. ... >>

Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller board 28.01.2021

The Raspberry Pi Foundation, widely known for its Raspberry Pi single-board microcomputers among engineers and electronics enthusiasts, has unveiled its first microcontroller board called the Raspberry Pi Pico. Now it is the most affordable board in the Raspberry Pi range - its price in the US is only 4 dollars (113 hryvnias).

The Raspberry Pi Pico can be considered the answer to competing Arduino Nano microcontrollers for home DIY gadgets.

The basis of the Raspberry Pi Pico board is a new microcontroller of our own design RP2040. The main goals that were pursued during its development were high performance, especially for integer calculations, wide possibilities for connecting external devices and low price. The result is a tiny "crystal" with an area of two square millimeters in a QFN-56 package with dimensions of 7x7 mm.‎ The dimensions of the Raspberry Pi Pico board itself are 51x21 mm.

Specifications of the RP2040 microcontroller:

dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ processor with a base clock speed of 48 MHz and the ability to increase up to 133 MHz;
264 KB SRAM;
support for up to 16 MB of external flash memory via the QSPI bus;
DMA controller;
integer divider interpolator and peripherals;
30 GPIO lines for connecting external devices, four of which are allocated for analog input;
controllers UART (x2), I2C (x2) and SPI (x2);
16 PWM channels;
USB 1.1 controller (client and host with UF2 boot support);
8 PIO pins (Programmable I/O state machines) for connecting branded peripherals.

The capabilities of the microcontroller are sufficient to run applications designed to process machine learning tasks. A port of the TensorFlow Lite framework has been prepared for their development. Applications can be created using C, C++, or MicroPython, and can be written via Micro USB.
