Model №1

This design is a continuation of the work on improving the model, which was described in "M-K" (No. 1, 1972). For better streamlining, a round fuselage is used on it. The keel has a swivel mechanism for forced descent. The propeller diameter has been increased to 556 mm, which contributes to the duration of the motor flight and improves the dynamic characteristics of the launch.

To make the model more stable, the wing sweep has been increased to 25°. Its profile and endings are convex-concave.

Model No. 1 technical data:

  • S of the bearing part of the wing - 14,9 dm2
  • S stabilizing blades - 3,4 dm2
  • Model weight 235 g.

The main structure is made of balsa. Linden screw. The model features a rapid takeoff and rapid climb. The disadvantage is the relatively high planning speed, which, unfortunately, was often the reason for the model to exit the upstream.

Model №2

This is a further development of the scheme with a straight central part and tips bent back. In terms of fuselage design, keel attachment, propeller parameters, forced descent principle, this model repeats the previous one. But she has a different flight character due to the installation of a straight wing, which contributes to a decrease in speed both in motor mode and in gliding. This has its pros and cons.

The launch of the model should be smoother, the motor flight is not as fast due to the tendency of the structure to roll over on its back. But with careful adjustment, it was possible in calm weather (wind 3-4 m / s without thermal flows) to show a result of more than 2 minutes.

Technical data of model No. 2:

  • S bearing parts of the wing - 13,6 dm2
  • S stabilizing parts - 5,2 dm2
  • Model weight - 288 g.

As a result, it should be said that the improvement of details, the improvement of the propeller group, the change in sweep contributed to the improvement of the flight characteristics of the model. But, unfortunately, all this did not lead to a sharp increase in the duration of the model's stay in the air due to mediocre planning.

In this regard, it is advisable to search for the most advantageous profile of ribs and elongation. Work should also be done on the twisted wing to reduce the area of the stabilizing rudders. The high quality of flight of models with such a wing was demonstrated by aircraft modelers from Serpukhov, headed by an experienced teacher E. Deligentov. True, they did not gain much height, but good planning compensated for this shortcoming, the Models were easily kept in the updrafts.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

asymmetric icebreaker 13.08.2013

For many years, shipbuilders have been working on improving the design of icebreakers. The profit of the carrier company directly depends on the quality of the icebreaker’s work: if the icebreaker manages to break through the ice, then ships with various cargoes can pass unhindered along the northern routes even in the winter months. Of course, countries facing the sea, including Russia (it supplies some parts for the new icebreaker), are striving to find convenient routes for the quick delivery of goods to Europe by sea.

It is assumed that the Baltika icebreaker, which is being built by the Finnish shipbuilding company Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (Finland), will solve some of the problems.

The new ship will have a bow on one side, which will allow you to move forward at an angle. The vessel will be equipped with three engines (9 MW total power / 7,5 MW propulsion power). They will be installed at the very bottom and will be able to rotate 360 degrees. In addition, the ship will be equipped with a unique system of pumps to move liquid fuel and water from the holds to tanks inside the hull to change its center of gravity. Thus, the ship will be able to go straight, at an angle, or even in the opposite direction. In their message, representatives of Arctech said that the new icebreaker will not only be able to cut through the ice in the Gulf of Finland, but also help in oil spill areas and in rescue operations.

The dimensions of the ship will be 76 meters long and 20 meters wide. Usually a vessel of this size can clear a path only slightly wider than itself. However, the Baltika icebreaker will be able to clear a 50 m wide path in 60 cm thick ice. This is enough for a tanker to follow.

According to shipbuilders, the Baltika icebreaker should be ready next spring.
