To check the symmetry of the punch of the ship model hull, all its frames (or half-frames) are made according to the drawing. Although this work is not laborious, it requires time and material costs. For ship modeling circles and laboratories, where the production of models of ships and ships of various classes is established, I suggest using a universal mechanical template. It reliably and quickly controls the compliance of the hull contours of the ship model with its theoretical drawing and determines even the slightest asymmetry of each side of the punch.

The manufacture of a mechanical template is available to any ship modeling circle, which has elementary machines and tools.

Universal Mechanical Template for Models
Universal mechanical template for models (click to enlarge): 1 - model punch, 2 - locking screw, 3 - transverse ruler, 4 - longitudinal ruler, 5 - connecting screw (see Fig. 2), 6 - sector, 7 - screw -tap, 8 - vertical ruler

Working with a mechanical template is easy. First, the lines of the diametral plane and the lines of the frames are applied to the punch. The mechanical template is set in such a way that the transverse ruler (3) is on the line of the frame (for example, the midsection of the frame), and the longitudinal ruler 4 is on the line of the diametrical plane of the punch. Ruler 4 moves along ruler 3 and is fixed with screw 2. Vertical ruler 8, which has several threaded holes into which tap screws 7 are screwed, is installed at the most convenient angle depending on the configuration of the punch contours and is clamped with screw 2 on sector 6. After that, the screws - taps 7 are screwed all the way into the punch body. Now, by turning the template by 180° and transferring it to the opposite side, you will determine the symmetry of the punch by the position of the screws. For the manufacture of a universal template, we recommend steel 45.

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Controlling objects using air currents 04.05.2024

The development of robotics continues to open up new prospects for us in the field of automation and control of various objects. Recently, Finnish scientists presented an innovative approach to controlling humanoid robots using air currents. This method promises to revolutionize the way objects are manipulated and open new horizons in the field of robotics. The idea of controlling objects using air currents is not new, but until recently, implementing such concepts remained a challenge. Finnish researchers have developed an innovative method that allows robots to manipulate objects using special air jets as "air fingers". The air flow control algorithm, developed by a team of specialists, is based on a thorough study of the movement of objects in the air flow. The air jet control system, carried out using special motors, allows you to direct objects without resorting to physical ... >>

Purebred dogs get sick no more often than purebred dogs 03.05.2024

Caring for the health of our pets is an important aspect of the life of every dog owner. However, there is a common assumption that purebred dogs are more susceptible to diseases compared to mixed dogs. New research led by researchers at the Texas School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences brings new perspective to this question. A study conducted by the Dog Aging Project (DAP) of more than 27 companion dogs found that purebred and mixed dogs were generally equally likely to experience various diseases. Although some breeds may be more susceptible to certain diseases, the overall diagnosis rate is virtually the same between both groups. The Dog Aging Project's chief veterinarian, Dr. Keith Creevy, notes that there are several well-known diseases that are more common in certain breeds of dogs, which supports the notion that purebred dogs are more susceptible to disease. ... >>

Over 10Gbps speed shown for 5G on the move 27.07.2018

NTT DoCoMo, AGC and Ericsson successfully field-tested fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications technology in a vehicle driven at high speed in Japan.

During testing, the frequency range of 28 GHz was used. The vehicle was equipped with special antenna modules mounted on glass surfaces. In total, experts used eight such modules - on the side windows, windshield and rear windows. This ensured the reception of signals from any direction.

The tests were carried out on a section of the road with a length of 2,2 kilometers. 5G mobile equipment was installed in the car, and three stationary base stations were installed on the territory of the test zone.

As a result, it was possible to show throughput at the level of 8 Gbit / s when the car is moving at speeds up to 100 km / h. Moreover, the bandwidth of the channel reached 11 Gb / s while reducing the speed of the car to 30 km / h.

Thus, tests have shown that 5G networks will provide connected cars and self-driving vehicles with ultra-fast communication channels. This will usher in an era of completely new services and telematic services.
