Rocket "07" - the first rocket, which was worked on by the 2nd brigade of the GIRD (Jet Propulsion Study Group), led by M.K. Tikhonravov.

Before joining the GIRD, M. K. Tikhonravov gained extensive experience in the development of original aircraft structures and transferred aviation principles to rocket technology. That is why "07" had a very unusual shape and, as a result, an unusual arrangement of equipment.

A characteristic feature of the rocket was that the combustion chamber was located in its upper part. This gave it greater stability in flight, since the center of thrust with the engine running was higher than the center of gravity. Fuel tanks (two with liquid oxygen and two with kerosene) were mounted in the cavities of the stabilizers, which were interconnected at the head of the rocket.

The frame of the rocket was made of sheet aluminum and profiles with flanged holes to give the structure rigidity. External covering - sheet aluminum.

According to initial calculations, with a weight of 24 kg, "07" was supposed to rise to a height of about 10 km, after which the kick-off machine worked, which threw a parachute out of the head part, and the rocket smoothly descended to the ground.

Rocket "07" was designed with a special engine. However, shortcomings in the cooling system prevented its use in experiments. There was an attempt to put the engine from the GIRD-X rocket with the index "10", but it did not develop sufficient thrust either. In the future, they decided to use the already worked out engine "02", and flight tests were carried out with it.

Estimated data of the rocket "07":

  • Starting weight, kg - 35
  • Fuel reserve, kg - 10
  • Payload, kg - 2
  • Engine thrust, kg - 85
  • Specific thrust, kg / s - 187
  • Working time, s - 22
  • Full length, mm - 2010
  • Span of stabilizers, mm - 1074
  • Maximum flight range, m - 400

Rocket 07
Rocket "07": 1 - nose fairing, 2 - fairing release device, 3 - place for parachute, 4 - pressure accumulator (cylinder with compressed air up to 150 atm), 5 - instrument compartment, 6 - pressure reducing valve, 7 - pipeline , 8 - fuel sprayer, 9 - fuel tank, 10 - liquid oxygen tank, 11 - spar (longitudinal stiffness), 12 - jet engine "02", 13 - rib, 14 - fuel supply pipeline, 15 - oxygen supply pipeline to combustion chamber, 16 - stabilizer, 17 - stabilizer casing, 18 - stabilizer tip

All elements of the rocket were ready in 1933, and in June they began to test and debug them. In view of the fact that forced work on the 09 rocket began, the refinement of the 07 was temporarily stopped and resumed only in August 1933 after the launch of the 09.

In October of the same year, the first fire tests of the propulsion system were carried out, and in the summer of 1935 they made two attempts to launch a rocket. And if at the first attempt the flight of the rocket was unstable due to some damage to the skin, then when it was restarted, the flight was normal. The rocket rose vertically and disappeared from view. The place of her fall could not be found.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

793 Electric Mining Truck 05.01.2023

Caterpillar has demonstrated the 793 Electric prototype at its Tucson Proving Grounds in Green Valley, Arizona. This proving ground allows potential Caterpillar customers to test trucks over a seven-kilometer distance in scenarios similar to real operations.

During the demonstration, the 793 Electric was loaded with material from the quarry to be transported to a nearby train, just like any other heavy truck during normal operations.

A fully loaded truck reached a top speed of 60 km/h. The car also had to travel one kilometer up 10% at a speed of 12 km/h, then go down to regenerate energy.

After completing the entire run, the truck maintained sufficient battery charge to provide additional cycles, although it was not clear when it would need to be recharged.

Caterpillar is rapidly expanding its operations to embrace sustainable energy production, with hydrogen and solar power as its primary sources. They will complement a future lineup of all-electric trucks, planters, large wheel loaders and bulldozers.

Caterpillar has upgraded its simulated mine at Tucson Proving Grounds to show how future mining facilities can become cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
