Starter for micromotor. Tips for a modeler

Start the micromotor manually? So you’ll beat off your fingers, and it’s far from always that capricious diesel engines start up with half a turn. And in competitions, the time limit for launching is very tight. I did not meet the allotted minutes - and instead of test numbers, "steering wheels" appear in the referee's protocols.

The winners are those who start the motors with a mechanical starter - a device consisting of a multiplier and a flywheel. Unfortunately, this device is quite difficult to manufacture, moreover, it is bulky and heavy. Is it possible to make a simpler starter?

In recent years, some modellers have been successfully using ... a gear rack to wind up engines. A thin steel strip-rail inserted into the textolite handle is engaged with a gear mounted on the motor shaft. A jerk by hand - and the engine, as a rule, starts.

Making such a starter is not too difficult. First of all, you need a gear with an external Ø 16-20 mm. The tooth module can be anything, but gears with too small a tooth should not be used - if the rack is distorted, which is inevitable during winding, they will quickly work out.

In the gear, a conical hole should be cut corresponding to the landing cone of the motor shaft, and its ends should be machined so that two protrusions form on the part. On one of them - from the side of the screw - triangular grooves are cut: a notch.

The support of the gear rack when starting the micromotor is a special latch - a rod. The body of this unit is machined from duralumin, while the stem itself is a piece of steel bar Ø 6 mm. In the working position, it is held by a spiral spring wound from a wire Ø 0,25 mm.

It remains to make a gear rack. The length of its working part should be about 500 mm, and the thickness and height should correspond to the width of the gear and the distance from the rod to the circumference of the gear cavities. The tooth modules of the rack and pinion must be identical.

The rail handle is cut out of two textolite plates, adjusted to the arm, and a groove for the rail is sawn through it. Fastening the latter to the handle - M4 screws.

After the mutual adjustment of the parts, you can start the engine. First of all, retract the rod, put the rack on the gear and fix it with a latch. Holding the model with your left hand, pull the rail sharply towards you with your right hand - the engine will start.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Coded information on the phone screen 29.10.2011

Apple has filed a patent application that describes an unusual technology for "encrypting" information displayed on mobile device displays.

In a crowded place, the user will be able to activate a special mode in which the letters and images on the screen will be distorted to the point of being completely unreadable. To see a meaningful image instead of a hodgepodge of pixels, the owner of a smartphone or tablet just needs to put on special glasses.
