The proposed model of the S6A class rocket is quite simple to manufacture. I hope that it will be of interest to those who aspire to victorious heights in rocket modeling sports.

The main material for the model is an insulating "sandwich" made of fiberglass and capacitor paper, used in electrical and radio engineering.

The head fairing is tapered 108 mm long. Its skirt (connecting) is cylindrical, 24 mm long, glued on a mandrel with a diameter of 39,2 mm. Two frames 1,5 and 3 mm thick are glued from the ends. From the side of a thicker frame on epoxy resin, a cone of the head fairing is mounted, and a suspension thread with a shock absorber is attached to it.

The case - 295 mm long - is glued on a mandrel with a diameter of 39,8 mm, the seam width is 1,5-2 mm. A tail block is fixed in the lower part of the body, consisting of two elements: a cone 100 mm long and a motor cone 27 mm long and 10,3 mm in diameter. Moreover, the driving element is glued inside the cone for a length of 13 mm. The tail block is mounted inside the body, after making small cuts along the length of its circumference. The width of the gluing belt is 4 mm.

Stabilizers (there are three of them) are made of 1,4 mm thick balsa plastic, profiled, butt-attached to the tail block. At the attachment point of one of them, an MPO retainer (a piece of steel wire with a diameter of 0,6 mm) and a suspension thread of the rescue system - a brake tape are glued.

Streamer (brake tape) - dimensions 130x125 mm - cut out of polygraphic lavsan 0,03 mm thick, laying - "accordion" with a step of 25-27 mm.

The weight of the model without MPO and brake band is 7,5 g.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Carbon 3D frame will improve lithium-ion battery anodes 29.07.2021

With the goal of eliminating the shortcomings of current lithium-ion battery anodes, a group of engineers from Korea Maritime and Ocean University and Busan National University, in an article for the Chemical Engineering Journal, reported on an anode material they developed with unique structural characteristics that overcome many of the existing barriers to increase anode efficiency.

In their work, the Korean scientists focused on manganese selenide (MnSe), a widely available transition metal compound known for its high electrical conductivity and used in the development of semiconductors and supercapacitors. However, MnSe experiences a sharp (nearly 160%) volume change during charge-discharge, which not only reduces electrode performance but also creates safety issues.

The researchers developed a simple and inexpensive way to compensate for this volume change: they evenly embedded MnSe nanoparticles into a three-dimensional porous carbon nanosheet (3DCNM) matrix. This carbon framework not only protected the fixed MnSe nanoparticles from sudden volume expansion, but also endowed them with numerous additional advantages, such as a large number of active centers and an increased area of contact with the electrolyte.

The best version of this material synthesized by the authors, which showed the highest cyclic stability and charge/discharge rate in tests, continued to demonstrate excellent electrochemical properties (including the kinetics of lithium ion and electron transport) when used as part of a battery prototype with a lithium/manganese oxide cathode.

The team is encouraged by the potential prospects for their achievement: “Using a conductive filler backbone, we have developed an anode that enhances battery performance while providing reversible energy storage. This strategy could be applied to other transition metal selenides with high surface area and stable nanostructure, with applications in energy storage systems, electrocatalysis and semiconductors".
