Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

When playing with a child, look at him 08.05.2016

The more adults are distracted by playing with children, the worse these children themselves develop the ability to focus their attention on something. This observation was made by psychologists from the University of Indiana (USA), under the guidance of professors Chen Yu (Chen Yu) and Linda Smith (Linda Smith).

The authors of the study attached video cameras to the heads of parents and their children who played together, fixing the direction of their views. (The experiment involved very young children who are just learning to distinguish and name objects of the world around them.) It turned out that when the child and the teacher looked at an object together for at least 3,6 seconds, the child's attention was kept on this object on average 2,3 s longer.

Moreover, attentive educators much less often had to specifically draw the attention of children to a particular object in the course of educational games. They could simply give the child the initiative, and when the child showed interest in one of the toys, they could simply say the name aloud and encourage further play.

All this only works if the adult's attention is genuine, as impartially captured by the video.

“Many parents actually tried really hard,” Professor Yu said. “They tried to demonstrate their parenting qualities by showing their children toys and saying the names of objects. But when you look at the camera recordings, you actually see how the eyes of children ] wandered around the ceiling or was directed somewhere behind the back of an adult - they did not show attention.

So, while playing with your child, you should not look at the ceiling or at the phone screen, thereby setting a bad example. After all, the development of a child's ability to concentrate is one of the most important conditions for his success in the future life. Attentive children who are able to concentrate learn languages faster, solve math problems better, and so on.
