The preamplifier (driver) was specially designed for the power amplifier of the "YES-97" transceiver, but can be recommended for use in other amateur radio designs.
The main task set during its development is to reduce the amount of harmonic components in the spectrum of the output signal of a broadband power amplifier, which, as a rule, are the cause of TV1. Therefore, the transistors in the driver, as well as in the output stage, are switched on in a push-pull circuit, Fig. 1.

To obtain the nominal output power, a signal with an amplitude of about 150 mV (rms value) must be applied to the driver input from the output of band-pass filters (BPF), while the driver provides an output voltage at a load of 50 ohms in a band of 1,5-30 MHz from 12 to 15V (rms value).
Some design features.
The output transistors KT904 are soldered directly into the printed circuit board with bolts up, onto which a small duralumin radiator 20x50x5 mm in size is subsequently screwed. The KT815 transistor is also installed on the same radiator, designed to stabilize the quiescent current (80 mA) of the output transistors.
Full driver tuning consists in setting the quiescent current of the output transistors, which is set by the tuning resistor R10. The amplitude-frequency response in the high-frequency region of the entire amplifier can be corrected by capacitor C7.
Transformer T1 is wound on a ferrite ring with a permeability of 1000NN, size K10 x 6 x 5, with PELSHO-0,31 wire and contains 2 x 8 and 3 turns.
Transformer T2 is wound on a ferrite ring with a permeability of 600NN, standard size K10x7x12, with a PELSHO 0,31 wire and contains 2x8 turns. The printed circuit board is made of foil fiberglass 120 x 55 mm, Fig.2.
