The new rules for holding competitions in the class of "air combat" models prohibit the use of glow engines without silencers. I bring to the attention of readers the most successful muffler developed by me for the TsSTKAM-2,5 engine. It consists of a collar, a silencing chamber, a bracket, a cover and M3 screws with spring washers.

The muffler is easy to manufacture, and its installation is preceded by only a slight refinement of the engine. To do this, the motor was disassembled, the crankcase was fixed in a mandrel and the cylinder head, together with the exhaust port, was machined to a diameter of 29 mm.

The most complex element of the muffler is the clamp. It is made from a piece of D16T grade duralumin 50x40x12 mm in size.

The center is marked on the workpiece and a hole with a diameter of 28,7 mm is bored. (If you make several sets at once, then it is better to process the clamps in a package of up to 5 pieces. The bored workpieces must be fixed on a special cylindrical mandrel with a diameter of 28,6 mm. Cut out a template for the outer contour of the clamp from a thin sheet material, put it on the mandrel and mark the upper workpiece on it. It is desirable to process the outer contour on a vertical milling machine, fixing the mandrel with a package of blanks in a vice. through groove in the clamping foot.)

For the silencing chamber, an electrolytic capacitor case of suitable dimensions was used. Its lower part is cut off on a lathe, and the body is cleaned of contents. Then, two holes with a diameter of 3,2 mm were marked and drilled in the bottom, and an exhaust window 12x6 mm in size was sawn out with a needle file.

The cover is machined from D16T with one installation: first, the inner surface is processed, and then the outer surface.

Before assembly, the mating surfaces of the parts were thoroughly degreased with acetone, and then lubricated with silicone auto sealant. They also lubricated the screws that secure the silencer chamber to the clamp. For a reliable connection of the chamber and the cover, two holes with a diameter of 1,5 mm were drilled in them, through which a bracket of 1 mm copper wire was passed and riveted.

The muffler is mounted on the cylinder head with the clamp slightly unclenched for a while. And so that the exhaust window of the engine strictly coincides with the exhaust window in the clamp.

Due to the increased weight of the propeller installation, the engine had to be mounted near the leading edge of the wing of the model. To do this, a semicircular recess for the muffler was cut out in the wing forehead and pasted over with aluminum foil to prevent burnout of the skin.

The use of a silencer slightly reduced the effective power of the engine, therefore, in order to maintain the speed at the same level, a suitable propeller was selected.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

From rhubarb - not only compote 31.08.2001

Rhubarb, like many other members of the buckwheat family, contains tannins.

German experts suggested using an environmentally friendly extract of rhubarb roots instead of poisonous chromium salts when dressing leather. The harvest per hectare is enough to produce ten thousand pairs of shoes. Automotive firm "Audi" intends to test leather seats, processed in a new way.

In addition, the petioles of rhubarb leaves are suitable for the production of detergents. And, as you know, they make delicious compote, and all this without the slightest harm to the environment.
