See what an original and simple heat engine was proposed by the inventor from Krivoy Rog A. Meshkovets.

Heat and the law of Archimedes

On the rim of the impeller 1, soft elastic tanks 2 are attached, containing small equal amounts of a low-boiling liquid. For example, it can be a 10% aqueous solution of ammonia - ammonia. The impeller is mounted on a shaft 3, the ends of which are fixed in the walls of the vessel 4, which should not prevent the shaft from rotating freely. The vessel is filled up to the wheel hub with water heated to 70-80°. At this temperature, as you know, ammonia boils ...

Now let's spin the wheel with our hand. What will happen? Reservoirs, getting into heated water, will heat up. The ammonia in them will warm up and boil. Its vapors will inflate the shells of elastic tanks - the more, the longer the tank is in warm water.

Since the wheel is spinning, the volume of the tanks that have just entered the heated water will be less than the volume of the tanks leaving the vessel with water. But after all, a buoyant force acts on the reservoirs in the liquid, which increases in proportion to their volume. Therefore, a greater force will act on tanks emerging from the water than on tanks that have just submerged.

After leaving the heated water, the tanks will be cooled by the surrounding air. The ammonia will condense and the volume of the tanks will decrease. Thus, the cycle of the heat engine will be closed. The wheel will continue to spin on its own. It will stop only when the temperature of the water in the vessel drops below the boiling point of ammonia. So don't worry: "perpetual motion" is not invented here.

The author sawed the impeller from textolite 10 mm thick. After manufacturing, it should be carefully balanced.

The wheel has fingers - elastic reservoirs are put on them. In their role, you can try rubber balloons. They must be firmly screwed with a thick thread, together with the joints with fingers - lubricate with waterproof glue.

Attention! Ammonia vapors are harmful to the mucous membranes, so all work with ammonia should be done in a well-ventilated area.

Think about it: you can’t apply such a design of a heat engine for real domestic or industrial needs - for example, in an area where there are geothermal waters. Probably, in this case, ammonia is no longer suitable.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Which book is more environmentally friendly 01.07.2011

For the sake of paper books, forests are cut down, and runoff from paper production poisons the environment. But old paper can be recycled and reused.

E-books do not require paper, but the production of electronic components also produces toxic emissions, reading consumes electricity, and disposing of used electronics is also harmful to the environment.

The public environmental organization TerraPass (USA) has calculated that if you read more than 23 books in a year, then it is safer to switch to an e-book to save nature. If less, continue to stick to the usual, paper ones.
