PHILIPS OZEO. Mobile phone overview Review It is impossible to evaluate the attractiveness of the device until you hold it in your hands - after that you don’t want to give it away. The phone is available in several colors: blue, black and golden beige. Only the dark gray border of the display is unchanged. The case is made very soundly: inside nothing creaks, does not dangle. The battery fastening (it sits very firmly) is made in the same way as in Nokia 61xx, 51xx phones. Unlike similar designs in many modern devices, the battery is integral with the back cover. The SIM card holder located under the battery is well made and holds the card exceptionally tight. The keyboard buttons are made of plastic and require some force to press. It is up to you to decide whether to enable the lock or not, but if the device is in your jacket pocket, then turning it on will be clearly superfluous. Despite the fact that the buttons are a little stiff, they are pleasant to press, and besides the sound tone, pressing is accompanied by a mechanical click. By the way, the backlight of the buttons matches the color (aqua) with the backlight of the display. The backlighting of the buttons is uniform, thanks to clear inscriptions, the buttons are perfectly visible in the dark. The device comes standard with a NiMH 680 mAh battery (as it is written on the corresponding website), which should provide up to 300 hours of standby time. In practice, of course, 300 hours cannot be achieved: the real time is half of the declared one. Together with this battery, the device weighs 128 grams, which, of course, is not small, but, on the other hand, not very much: the phone fits comfortably in the hand and its weight is practically not felt. The charger is the most common. The connector is designed in such a way that, with all the desire, it cannot be inserted into another socket. If you succeed, consider that you have broken the connector; the latch is comfortable - there should not be any problems with it. Display, menu, functions The display of the device is simply huge. In standby mode, it displays the clock - arrow or digital (optional) and the date. The characters are clearly visible, and the smooth electroluminescent backlighting in aqua color makes the screen simply irresistible. You can choose the time of the backlight yourself: 10, 30 or 60 seconds. If the backlight is not needed, it can be turned off altogether. Service symbols, including signal strength and battery level, are located at the bottom of the display, which is somewhat unusual. Unlike Nokia phones, symbols are drawn not on the graphic part of the display, but on a separate line of service symbols. The battery and signal level indicators each have four divisions. The device's menu is made according to the carousel scheme already familiar to the owners of the Philips Genie device. The convenience of this concept is also difficult to assess without picking up the device. This type of menu is very easy to learn, so I didn’t have to refer to the instructions: everything is so clear and logical. The speed of drawing menu items deserves special attention: when the animation is on, no slowdown is observed - working with the device is a real pleasure. The phone is controlled using three buttons, two of them - "with" and "OK". The "c" button has three functions: return to the previous menu level with a short press, return to standby mode with a long press, and lock / unlock the keypad with a long press in standby mode. The "OK" button has two functions: entering the menu when pressed in standby mode and confirming the selection of a function. The third button deserves a separate description: it is a three-position (up, down, press) pilot key button located on the left side of the phone. In fact, you can control the device using this one button: pressing up in standby mode calls up a list of recent calls (incoming and outgoing), in the menu - moving through the menu items; pressing down in standby mode - a call to the phone book display, in the menu - moving through the menu items; short press on the pilot key in standby mode - call up the menu, short press in the menu - select an item or enable a function, long press in standby mode - activate voice dialing, long press in the menu - return to the previous level. When the keyboard is locked, pressing up and down disables its lock. Thanks to this key, you get real pleasure from operating the device. It is overshadowed by two things: firstly, sometimes you have to resort to the "c" button, which means that you need to either remove your hand from the pilot key, or use the other hand, and, secondly, you need to control the pilot key with your left hand. When you control the right thumb very unsuccessfully closes the hole for the call, and if you reach for the coveted button with your index or middle finger, in some incomprehensible way, pressing is worse: the button is a little warped. There is no provision for controlling the phone using numeric sequences (it seems to me that such a function would even be superfluous): there are 25 voice commands for this, besides, all ten numeric buttons can be assigned menu commands or assigned phone numbers for speed dialing. By the way, access to menu items thanks to well-implemented management and structure takes very little time. 7 profiles: Personal, Silent, Offline, Headset, Car, Outdoor, Meeting - designed to make life easier for the user. In the "Offline" mode, the machine turns off the backlight and animation in the menu. By the way, after turning off the animation, the menu starts to work even faster, which seems almost unbelievable, because it is already very fast. When this mode is activated, you have the opportunity to stretch the battery charge for a longer time, which is very useful if you go somewhere where there is no outlet, or the charger is forgotten at home. From the menu you can access the alarm clock, calculator, organizer, voice recorder. The alarm clock and calculator do not deserve special mention due to the banality of their functions. The only thing that is useful and convenient is that the alarm clock can ring either once, or every day, or every day except for weekends. The organizer allows you to record appointments and tasks. Viewing events is available in three modes: month, week, day. Special claims to the recorder: firstly, the duration of the recording is only 20 seconds, and secondly, it must be one record, that is, the recorder does not allow you to make several records within these 20 seconds. Another disadvantage of the menu is the impossibility of deleting the entire list of calls (incoming and outgoing): you have to delete one item at a time. I want to say a few words about the game "Bricks" (the usual "Arkanoid"). It's very well made and doesn't slow down at all. Moreover, the speed of the ball gradually increases from level to level. For best results, it is best to play with both hands. Voice control of the device is a very pleasant and convenient function. Voice recognition is excellent. An example is this: I recorded a voice tag for a phone number. When I needed to resort to voice dialing, two people said the mark almost simultaneously (and one of the voices was female). The device thought a little and began to dial the desired number. Which of the speakers he reacted to is a mystery to me. The phone perfectly recognizes a label recorded in a male voice, but voiced by a female. There is only one problem: the device does not want to understand the word "Shush!". Apparently too short. For those who do not like to talk to the phone, as mentioned above, there are ten number buttons, which can be used to assign menu commands and speed dial numbers. All actions in the menu are accompanied by corresponding sound signals (for example, successful completion of an operation or confirmation - double beep). I managed to catch a small software error in the menu. The fact is that to activate voice dialing, you need to say the label twice. Her voice acting both times is preceded by pressing the pilot key. When the English language of the menu is on, everything is in order: the device shows twice (draws an icon) that it is necessary to press the pilot key. When the Russian language is on, the device for the first time offers to press the pilot key to record a voice tag, and the second time - the "hang up / turn off the device" button. I do not advise you to succumb to this trick: it is better to press the pilot key again. A few words about SMS. The device is equipped with a T9 predictive text input system, which is practically useless in our harsh Russian conditions. When you turn on the Russian language, the T9 menu turns off automatically. There are ten templates for SMS, all in English. In addition, you can attach an icon to the message. In total, fifty icons on various topics are available. These icons will be displayed on Philips devices with a graphic display. If you know a kind of icon recoding table, then by typing a certain type of emoticon in the message text on any phone, Philips will display the corresponding icon instead of this emoticon. Phone book The phone book is standard for most devices and has only two fields - name and phone number. A feature of this model is that immediately after entering the number, the device asks what kind of number it was: voice, fax or data. The notebook is not Russified (which is surprising), so the names have to be entered in Latin letters. You can attach a voice dialing tag to an entry in the phone book, and then it will be enough to press the pilot key and name this tag for the device to start dialing. Dialing starts as soon as the phone recognizes the tag: no further confirmation is required. Sensitivity, speech quality The sound quality is quite decent. The maximum volume is such that in a quiet room the phone can be heard at a distance of up to 10 meters. Naturally, when making calls to good PBXs. The only problem is that due to the lack of length of the device and the desire to place a microphone on the front of the phone, the designers made a speaker hole at the top of the device. As a result, holding the phone near your ear is not very comfortable. Otherwise, there are no complaints. I didn't manage to go out of town and check the operation of the phone in "extreme" conditions, but in Moscow the device copes with its duties well. Registration in the network is very fast - 3-4 seconds. In case of unsatisfactory operation of the phone somewhere in the wilderness, you can connect an external antenna to it, the connector for which is located on the back of the device. Conclusion A good, solidly made phone with a large set of useful features. Convenient controls and a large display make it extremely easy and enjoyable to use. A set of 20 melodies (including one of my own) is complemented by a vibrating alert, so it's very difficult to miss a call. Voice control and voice dialing make it even easier to use your phone. The abundance of graphics and animations thanks to a fast processor only adds to the positive emotions associated with owning such a smart device. There is a fly in the ointment in any barrel of honey: deleting the call list is not thought out in the phone, and in general, deleting something (an entry in the phone book or voice recorder) is a rather lengthy process. The voice recorder is not very convenient; There is a small error in the Russian version of the menu, which, however, does not affect the functionality of the device. Another funny detail is that during voice recording, the display does not show the signal level. In other modes, it is always displayed.
