NOKIA 6310. Mobile phone review Review It's no exaggeration to say that the Nokia 6310 has been haunting the minds of consumers who have been waiting for it to hit the shelves for a long time. This model replaces the Nokia 6210, which was discontinued on February 1 - 6310 took its place. Of course, the new phone in many ways resembles its predecessor, which has established itself as one of the most interesting business devices. With the same shape, Nokia 6310 has become more balanced. The dimensions (129x47x17 mm) are the same as those of the 6210, the difference is only in thickness: the new phone is 2 mm thinner. This was achieved through the use of a lithium-polymer battery included in the standard package. The weight also decreased - 111 grams against 114 for Nokia 6210. Such a slight change in weight can be explained by the appearance of new functions in the phone, such as Bluetooth. But, in my opinion, the weight and size of the device was specially designed in this way, because many users like the feel of the phone in their hands, especially in the business segment. To give the phone airiness, a bronze-colored insert, edged with silver, was made around the screen. The display has the same dimensions as the Nokia 6210, but its resolution has slightly increased and amounts to 96x65 pixels (5 pixels more vertically). On the left is a rubber volume rocker. The side surfaces, as well as the back panel of the phone, are made of black plastic. The shape of the gray plastic keys has changed somewhat compared to the Nokia 6210, they have become more comfortable. But the inscriptions on the keys are now visible much worse: they merge when the backlight is on and are difficult to distinguish in medium light conditions. In complete darkness, the inscriptions are clearly visible, but the backlight always turns on when the phone is on. The scroll key in Nokia 6310 is divided into two separate oval keys, which are very convenient due to the distance between them. The phone will come in three colors - Jet Black, Sirocco Bronze and Mistral Beige. We tested the handset in Jet Black color, the other two options have a silver insert around the screen and, in my opinion, look less interesting. Battery The Nokia 6310 comes standard with a 1100 mAh lithium-polymer battery. According to the manufacturer, it is able to work in standby mode up to 18 days, in talk mode - from 3.5 to 5 hours. Needless to say, the figures are more than impressive, especially considering that the Nokia 6210 with a standard battery had a claimed standby time of up to 10 days. In fact, the operating time of the phone is somewhat less and depends on many factors: the frequency of re-registrations in the network, signal strength, and even weather conditions. On testing, Nokia 6310 was able to work for 8 days with a total talk time of 45 minutes, using an alarm clock and reminders. Another sample, tested later, showed slightly worse results - about 7 days with 40 minutes of talk time. In standby mode without using the phone for calls, it lasted about 9,5 days in the MTS network, in Beeline the operating time was 10,5 days. In any case, Nokia 6310 has a very solid operating time margin and surpasses many devices of its class in this parameter, for example, Siemens S45/ME45. Batteries from 6310 can be used with Nokia 6210: they are fully compatible, as accessories you can also find:
Old chargers are also suitable for this phone, only the charging time changes. The ACP-6310 charger is standard on the 8, just like on the Nokia 6210. Charging time:
In real conditions, a phone with a standard charger charges in 2 hours, sometimes in 2 hours and 10 minutes, no more. Finally, the last time-related feature of the device is a signal that warns of a low battery long before it is completely depleted. An unobtrusive beep sounding approximately once every 20 minutes will begin to notify you of the need to recharge the battery approximately 12 hours (standby use) before the final discharge. Due to the increased screen resolution, the battery charge indicator now has 7 divisions. The display of the actual battery charge is not always correct: sometimes, for no apparent reason, the charge is reduced by 2 units at once, while the total operating time does not change. Menus and functions Before launching the 6310 model into commercial production, Nokia engineers changed more than one software version in the phone, and it hit the shelves already with version 4.10 dated 04.01.02. It is possible that the Russian consumer will see the device with a later version of the software. The main menu has not undergone any ideological changes, the principle of its organization has remained the same. Quick navigation through the menu using numerical sequences is provided, each item and sub-item of the menu are numbered. Let's take a look at the menu items in sequence (there are 12 in total), but before that let's dwell on the possibilities of the phone book. Names. The phone book hasn't changed much: you can still store three phone numbers and one text block for one name, so you'll have up to 500 entries. If for one name you save up to 5 phone numbers and up to 4 short text messages (notes, email address, something else, but not SMS), then the total number of entries will be less. The memory of the phone book is distributed dynamically, which allows you to enter information as you like. 6310 supports groups of subscribers, there are 5 in total: family, VIP, Friends, Work, Others. For each group, you can choose your own version of the ringtone. For 10 individual numbers, it is possible to assign voice tags. Up to 8 shortcut numbers can be assigned to keys 2 to 9, key 1 is traditionally reserved for voicemail. Messages. This menu item is used for typing and reading short messages, as well as setting the reception of broadcast messages. The phone has 10 text templates in Russian and 10 pictures that can be used in messages. In addition to the Outbox and Inbox folders, as well as an archive designed to save messages, you can create your own folders and put short messages there. The phone works with the Russian language, and very decently, T9 predictive input with a Russian dictionary is provided. Fast switching between input languages was not, and is not - perhaps, this is the most serious shortcoming of the device. Sometimes you need to use both Latin and Cyrillic in the message - for this you will have to change the selected T9 dictionary or scroll first Russian letters and then English letters when typing. Practically ideal work with different languages is realized in Ericsson phones. The phone memory can store up to 150 short messages (text only) and 50 picture messages. The memory is allocated dynamically so that the total number of messages should not exceed 200, but any combination of them can be. Calls (Call Register). In this menu, you can view lists of the last 10 dialed, 10 received or 10 missed calls with the date and time of the call. The redial list can be called up by pressing the call key from idle mode. There are also points for calculating the cost of calls, as well as their duration. There is traditionally no timer that would be displayed on the screen during a call. Modes. For various usage conditions, the phone has 5 user profiles, in which you can set the ring type (35 tones and melodies, up to 10 recorded melodies), signal type (single, rising, normal, short, no signal), ringer volume (5 positions) , vibrating alert (enable or disable), keypad tone, warning tones, as well as set a filter for incoming calls (you can select certain groups of subscribers). Of the pleasant innovations, it is worth noting the appearance of a temporary profile activation mode - you specify the time the profile is turned off, and within the specified period it automatically changes to the profile that was earlier. Very convenient for meetings or meetings; a similar function first appeared in the Nokia 8310 - these phones are generally very similar in their capabilities to each other. Settings This item allows you to select the phone menu language, set the date and time, and correct the time and date according to the network settings (the operator must support this function). An alarm clock is also set here, which, by the way, is quite simple - only time. The alarm clock also works when the phone is switched off. There are also other settings related to the operation of the phone, in particular the GPRS settings. Games. The phone has four games: Snake II, Pairs II, Space Impact and Bumper. All of them are familiar to the user from other phones from Nokia. It is possible to use game-services, for which you need to get an identification number on the Nokia website - and go ahead. Calculator. Standard calculator, nothing to talk about. Cases (To-do list). The title of this item could be translated as a to-do list. You can enter up to 30 cases, give a small text (up to 50 characters), set the priority (high, low, standard). An entry from the to-do list can then be moved to a calendar on a specific date, which is very convenient. Calendar. Here you can view the calendar for the month, enter current affairs. The phone's memory allows you to save from 100 to 250 calendar notes, it all depends on the amount of text that accompanies them. For each note, a warning signal is set for a specific time and day - everything is very simple and clear. If you set the relevance of notes, after a certain time (for example, six months), old notes will be automatically deleted. IR port. Enable or disable the IR port, no comment. Bluetooth. But this feature was very interesting. According to Nokia, the phone is capable of operating at a distance of up to 10 meters with Bluetooth accessories such as a headset. Unfortunately, Nokia's headset is not yet available, so this feature had to be tested with an Ericsson headset (model HBH-15). In the phone menu, select Search for accessories, after activating the headset itself. The phone quickly finds it and offers to connect - we agree. The connection is established, and, most surprisingly, everything works, but it's too early to rejoice. Indeed, at a distance of up to 5 meters from the phone, the headset works quite well, without loss of connection. Moreover, walking down the street with a phone in my bag, I calmly accepted or rejected calls - very convenient! Trouble began when I turned off the headset and after a couple of minutes tried to turn it on again. The phone refused to find it, although before that I turned off the headset as an accessory. All attempts to connect the headset were unsuccessful, but, having guessed to remove the battery, I solved the problem - a new connection and the headset was found! The problem is that the phone does not correctly perceive this headset (?) or has a general problem with this firmware in terms of Bluetooth. So, as further study of this problem showed, an attempt to disconnect the connection (only one active connection at a time is possible), simply by deactivating the Bluetooth function, does not lead to anything: the phone flashes, but everything remains the same. Disconnecting an accessory and then Bluetooth causes the corresponding icon to disappear from the screen. But, as practice has shown, the disappearance of the Bluetooth icon from the screen does not disable this function, the phone still works in Bluetooth mode, there is only one way out - remove the battery, then everything returns to normal. I attribute these problems rather to software flaws. By the way, in Bluetooth mode power consumption is somewhat higher, with 30 minutes of talks, the phone works for about 4 days. I can only say that it is too early to draw conclusions - you should wait for the new firmware version, as well as branded accessories. Personally, it seems to me that the phone will not have problems with this technology. Extra. There is a voice recorder here that allows you to record up to 3 minutes of a conversation, while there are no restrictions on the number of recordings, the main thing is to keep within 3 minutes of the total time. You can listen to individual recordings, give them names, and finally delete them. Everything is quite simple: during a conversation, you need to press the left soft key twice, to end the recording - once on the right one, you get used to such control quickly. Here you can also configure up to 5 voice commands to access individual menu items. You can select menu items only from those offered - everything is quite simple and clear. In the same menu you will find a countdown timer, a stopwatch (up to 20 individual values that can be stored), and a wallet. This feature first appeared in 6310. In short, this is a place where you can store credit card information, enter personal notes. Access to the wallet is protected by a separately set password. Services. wap-browser menu version 1.2.1, everything is normal. You can configure wap-over-gprs. Subjective impressions In terms of sensitivity and speech quality, the novelty from Nokia differs little from 6210, the devices are equivalent. Some difference can be explained by the scatter of parameters, which is also present within the same series. The voice sounds soft and lively, there are no problems with speech reproduction. If the volume is set to maximum, noise in the speaker becomes audible during outgoing calls. Compared to 6210, the maximum volume of the speaker has increased, however, as well as the volume of the call; his tone changed somewhat - alas, nothing significant. The vibrating alert has become more powerful: you can really feel it even from the pocket of a winter jacket. In this regard, the device has become better. And now the most interesting thing is packet data transfer: the phone supports GPRS(3+1), which allows achieving speeds up to 40.2 Kbps. In the conditions of the Moscow Beeline network, the values \u3b\uXNUMXbare less, which is understandable, but, nevertheless, this function worked, there were no problems. In addition to connecting via the infrared port, you can use a data cable (it remained standard, it's DLR-XNUMXP). Support for HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) is also provided. Your phone comes with a "Nokia PC Suite" CD that you can use to synchronize your address book and calendar with your PC. With its help, you can also create ring tones and download them to your phone, write SMS messages. As you have already understood, most of the 6210 accessories fit the new model, which is undoubtedly a big plus for the owners of the 6210 model who are going to change the phone. Advantages and disadvantages The main advantages of Nokia 6310 compared to Nokia 6210 are:
Cons:
The battery (lithium-polymer) does not respond well to sub-zero temperatures: leaving the battery overnight in the car (-28), the author lost it. It should be noted that this is the weak point of this type of battery in general. Therefore, it is impossible to add a dead battery to the account of minuses, you just need to remember this when using your phone in winter. As you can see, the pros outweigh the cons, but we did not take into account the cost of both devices. Two weeks ago, when the Nokia 6310 was just starting to sell in Europe, it cost about 400-450 dollars, although the recommended price was about 380 dollars. In our country, this device can be bought for 500-600 dollars, which is extremely expensive. By the time official deliveries begin (in March), the estimated retail price will be about $350 and will stay at this level for three months, then there will be a gradual decrease to $300. The device, which is quite balanced in terms of functions, was somewhat delayed when it appeared on the market: from October to the end of September, Siemens S45/ME45 phones, which are the main competitors of Nokia 6310, are available. The advantages of these models:
Cons:
Pluses and minuses balance these models, making them equivalent. But in terms of price, the novelty from Nokia clearly loses to competitors: now S45 / ME45 cost about $ 300, and by March their price will drop to 275-280, it is also quite possible that a new version will appear that allows you to enter data in Russian. So Nokia 6310 is already on the losing side, which, however, will not prevent it from taking one of the highest sales positions in its class. I think this device will be the second in popularity. Сonclusion On the whole, the phone turned out to be very interesting, it is worth paying attention to everyone who already owns a cell phone from Nokia. It is ideal as a replacement for Nokia 6210, Nokia 7110, but users of phones from other brands will also be satisfied with this model. If you are not afraid of the size of the device, pay attention to 6310: the phone deserves it. One last thing to note: the SAR level for this model is 0.81 W/kg (European Union methodology).
