NOKIA 3330

Externally, this device is identical to the Nokia 3310 model. Minor changes have been made to the inside of the phone: it has a phone book with 100 numbers and wap-browser version 1.1.

This model is available in a new color solution, interchangeable front panels of new colors, including graphic ones, are available for it. To be fair, it should be noted that panels from Nokia 3310 will also fit, however, a reverse exchange is also possible. I’ll make a reservation right away that the case, or rather, the back panel, still opens just as tightly, and therefore it remains only to somehow get used to this process if you need to change SIM cards, I see no other way out.

I foresee many letters asking if it will be possible to burn firmware from 3330 to 3310 and what will come of it. I hasten to please everyone: nothing good will come of it, these firmware are incompatible, so there will be no free update of the device.

It makes no sense to talk about the WAP-browser for a long time, everything is quite ordinary. It is possible to save up to 5 settings for working with WAP. The maximum connection speed is 9600 bps. Everything works as it should, no oddities were noticed during the week of using wap. But here's what's interesting: thanks to the wap-service, it became possible to download new games from the network. By the way, the set of standard games has been expanded - the Bumper game has appeared. This is a variation on the theme of large gaming tables, where you chase the ball, repelling it and not letting it fall down with the help of two shutters at the bottom of the playing field. For the life of me, I don’t remember the name of this game, but I like it (I remembered pinnball, it seems so).

Cosmetic changes also affected the set of screen saver pictures: 6 new ones appeared, all of them animated. Pictures bring a pleasant variety to the process of using the phone - it is not so annoying.

Russification is done, as always, at a very good level. By the way, the phone that I had for testing had firmware version 3.05 dated May 04, 2001. As far as I know, there are no other firmware versions for this device yet. It's no secret that the highest percentage of defects among Nokia phones falls on the 3310 model. At the same time, the main problems are related to the operation of the software, which makes it impossible to repair and, as a result, replace the device under warranty. A large percentage of marriage is only a few percent, no more than 5, unfortunately, I do not have accurate information on this issue. If we compare the defect ratio in the 3310 model and, for example, in the Ericsson R320s, then the comparison will not be in favor of the latter, and by orders of magnitude. Let's hope that the revised software in the 3330 will function more stable.

Among other little things that appeared in 3330, it is worth noting the possibility of setting a vibration signal before a call in any profile. As far as I remember, the 3310 did not have this feature. A trifle, but nice ...

My impressions

The phone weighs 133 grams, which is not that much, but it is shaped like a small brick. Pardon the comparison, but beauty is only in the eyes of the beholder. In my opinion, the device is heavy. Of course, you can replace the standard 900 mAh Ni-MH battery with an 850 mAh Li-Ion battery (the weight of the phone will decrease by 30 grams), but such a replacement will cost another 60-70 dollars. From a standard battery with 15-20 minutes of calls per day, the phone works 3-4 days without turning off at night.

Voice dialing for 8 numbers works very well even in high noise levels.

The phone provides a fairly soft voice, the sound in the speaker is pleasant. There are no obvious communication failures; echoes are sometimes heard, which may well be due to network congestion in this particular area. The ringer volume is quite sufficient, however, I set it to the maximum, but I also carried the phone in my bag. The vibrating alert is decent, although it could have been made stronger, let's say it is quite comparable with other modern models.

Finally, one more interesting observation. When you enter the menu, for the first few seconds in the upper right corner, instead of the number 1 corresponding to the notebook, an ellipsis is displayed, then it disappears and a one appears. As it turned out, for all Nokia phones, for example, 3210, 8210 and other models, fast navigation through the menu is possible only while these dots are on (the number 6210 is immediately displayed on the 1, but this does not change the essence of the matter). Then when you click on the number, the number is dialed. Here is such a feature, which, to my shame, I did not know, in which many readers corrected me.

If the design of the Nokia 3330 doesn't stop you (or rather, if you like it), then this is your phone. It will suit everyone who likes Nokia products, but there is no opportunity to buy Nokia 6210 or 8210 yet. And, of course, a direct road to this device for everyone who does not like Siemens products. In general, the phone can be called good: it has a lot of advantages in the absence of obvious shortcomings.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Robot reinforces the slopes 29.05.2005

European engineers have tested a robot that strengthens the slopes.

Usually, Europeans drill deep holes in a landslide-threatening slope and hammer stakes or metal pins into it. And before that, bulky scaffolding is being built. Both are time-consuming work: for every ten square meters of a dangerous slope, there is a ten-meter-deep hole that must be drilled into the rocky ground.

In addition, builders are exposed to considerable danger - at any moment they can bring down loose rock on themselves, especially when it comes to a steep slope. And landslides in mountainous areas are frequent, in Northern Italy alone 400 slopes are destroyed in a year, causing damage of a billion euros and claiming dozens of human lives.

Scientists from the European Space Agency and D'Appolonia, with financial support from the European Commission, helped solve this problem. As a result, Roboclimber appeared - the heaviest (about 4 tons) robot in the world. It is a platform fixed on four legs. A powerful drill is installed on it, as well as a system used in space to control the orientation of the robot and its nodes.

Roboclimber is hung on ropes near a dangerous slope. He rests his feet on the slope, drills a hole, inserts a metal pin into it and, obeying the operator's command, moves up to continue working. During the tests, which took place in the Alta Valtorre area near Udine, Roboclimber drilled ten-meter holes with a diameter of 76 mm in a matter of minutes - much faster than the workers.

"According to our estimates, the use of the robot will save 75 euros while strengthening the slope of 5000 square meters. And there is nothing to say about safety," said Enzo Rizzi, project coordinator.
