Ericsson A2618S. Mobile phone review Review The phone is packed in a nice box and looks out of it through a transparent plastic window. In addition to the phone, the box contains a charger and instructions, as well as a brochure with a description of branded accessories for this model. The battery is already inserted in the device. Judging by my impressions, both the case and the battery of the a2618 are taken from the Ericsson DT260 DECT phone, hence, by the way, the dimensions of the phone (131x51x25 mm), its weight of 140 grams, as well as the design. For example, the battery is fastened in two slots at the top, the lower part is not fixed by anything, but with the back cover installed, the battery does not dangle inside, in any case, this is not heard or noticeable. A piece of rubber is glued on the back cover, which presses the battery and does not allow it to hang out. Using wires, power from the battery is supplied directly to the connector on the phone board. A very pleasant discovery was the capacity of the battery, not only is it 1400 mAh, but also lithium-ion. According to the manufacturer, the phone can work in standby mode with this battery up to 200 hours and in talk mode up to 9 hours. Of course, in real life, these values are much less and amounted to about 5 days in my case. At the same time, I talked on the phone for about 30 minutes a day and was often in areas of poor reception. In my opinion, this device is a record holder in terms of the capacity of a standard battery and the duration of its operation from a single charge. With this device, I felt that it was surprisingly pleasant to charge the phone almost once a week. But in fairness, it should be noted that the charge time of this battery is longer than that of a conventional one. Normal charging from a fully discharged state takes about 3-4 hours. The SIM card holder is of rather simple design, made of plastic. Nothing special, old reliable design. So, the card is inserted, the cover is closed and you can turn on the phone. When you turn it on, the Ericsson screensaver appears, very nice. However, if she gets bored, you can create your own welcome message, as well as create your own screensaver with all sorts of graphic and sound effects. But, however, for this you will need to get a cable to transfer pictures from a PC, which is difficult and expensive, so this function develops into the category of exotic. However, all the same can be done with the help of an IR modem available for this model, but this is even more exotic. Immediately at the first settings of the device, I noted that there are user profiles. They can be customized to your liking, but in the absence of a vibrating alert, the very idea of profiles becomes somewhat ridiculous. Moreover, the ringer volume of this phone leaves much to be desired, it can be heard very quietly from a jacket pocket at maximum volume, and by the way, it can be heard quietly even in the apartment. Lately, this has become a trademark of Ericsson phones - a weak ringtone, but the A2618 surpassed everyone in this parameter. Of the other musical possibilities, it should be noted the possibility of creating 4 of your own ringtones, in addition to 10 present. The phone's menu is well thought out and differs for the better from the menu of Ericsson R320s by the clarity of icons. Otherwise, everything is the same, at the top there are a number of tabs corresponding to the main menu items, there are 7 in total. Entering a separate menu is done by pressing the Yes key or typing the menu number on the keyboard. Each sub-item also has its own number, by typing it, you can select the desired option. Returning to the upper menu level is done by pressing the No key. You can scroll through the lists in the menu using the arrow keys. Everything is very simple and convenient, but, in my opinion, the menus open rather slowly. Also, when you first turned on and selected the Russian language, menu navigation was interrupted by the fact that the phone hung, this situation was really isolated and does not mean anything. Using the menu is not least convenient because of the large, well-defined font, which in turn became possible thanks to the graphic display showing up to 4 lines of text in addition to the icon line (manufacturer's statement). In fairness, it should be noted that in reality the device shows only three lines of text at a time, not four. I did not manage to achieve the declared 4 lines. In the photo you can see that two lines of the screen are occupied by icons of battery charge, signal level and clock (below) and at the top the icons appear as needed, so the photo shows an icon for unread SMS messages. In the menu, the top line is replaced by a fairly large heading, leaving only 3 lines for text. In the settings, I did not find the ability to disable menu titles, although such a function could be present. The screen backlight is soft, but not very strong. It is enough, as they say, just right, but I don’t recommend playing on the phone for a long time at night, your eyes will quickly get tired. The backlight is designed so that a person can make a call or simply view entries in the phone book. The phonebook itself can be stored both in the phone's memory (up to 99 numbers) and on the SIM card. There is a search by name, and when you press the keys from 2 to 9, the phone book opens on a certain letter, which is quite convenient. Subscriber names can be saved both in Russian and in English. However, the russification of the phone is done well and causes almost no complaints, but there are a few "buts". In particular, in the "additional functions" menu, Russification touched only the names of menu items and submenus, but, for example, they were too lazy to translate the time format, but I'm so grumbling. The same can be said about the games, there are three of them, Tetris, for which you need to twist the phone unnaturally, E-Maze - a labyrinth based on PacMan (a big fan, since the opponent's game algorithm is determined on the go) and, finally, Erix - a very good toy, which I used to flirt with as a child on Robotron. The goal of the game is to cut off pieces of space from flying balls, of which there are 2 at first, and then three or more. When the ball hits you, or rather your snake, you lose a life. If we are already talking about additional functions, or rather about such a menu, then it is worth mentioning the calculator. Nothing complicated - everything is very simple and, unfortunately, inconvenient. Finally, there is also a WAP service item, which gives access to WAP resources via SMS (WAP over SMS). This is another exotic service that must be supported by a mobile operator, but there are only a couple of such operators in Europe today that operate it commercially. In Moscow, neither MTS nor Beeline support this service, and given the fact that GPRS is coming soon, I think they won't. True, at one time Beeline supported this service for its employees, and, accordingly, access to it was closed with a password. All that is required from the operator is the installation of additional software for the implementation of this service, but when the cost of SMS messages is different from zero, there are problems with tariffing, and this is the second reason for the reluctance to commercially exploit this service. Nevertheless, I decided to set up this service, as it is described in the instructions and realized that the Ericsson technical writers called the menu items completely differently than in the final version of the software. Following the instructions, setting up WAP is not realistic or it requires a certain ingenuity, but in the end I still set everything up and tried to download wap.mts.ru. The phone happily showed the inscription "loading", but after a minute it gave a network error message, the same was on other pages. But literally in a minute I receive about 6 SMS messages with the message that the node wap.mts.ru cannot be opened because the language is not defined. It seems to me that the support of this protocol does not require practically any costs, but it is not introduced only because of the low demand from subscribers. Another rudiment left over from the apparently revised R320s firmware is the "E-mail addresses" item in the "phonebook" menu. Here you can record up to 10 e-mail numbers, I don’t see any real point, since you can’t use them even when writing SMS messages. Actually, templates (up to 10) of SMS messages can serve for this purpose. A message can be written in both English and Russian, but when sending a Russian message, it will be automatically converted to Latin. There is no support for predictive text input in this device, it is understandable - an economy model. But another feature inherited from the older brother is voice dialing for 10 numbers, which works very well even in noisy conditions. The phone also has an implementation of Ericsson's proprietary technology, which allows you to adjust the volume of the speaker depending on the surrounding conditions. Perhaps that is why the sound of the phone is very good and almost always on top. The device's sensitivity is average and fairly standard for phones from Ericsson (slightly better than T10s). Naturally, the phone also has a list of the last received, missed or made calls, in total there are up to 30 numbers in the list with the date and time indicated. There is the possibility of setting a minute timer. And, finally, there is the possibility of auto-locking the keyboard, which is present in all Ericsson devices (in any case, modern ones). And then after my last review, everyone blamed me for not indicating this fact, but, nevertheless, the inclusion of this function is inconvenient. It would be more convenient to just add an auto-block item to the C keystroke. The keyboard itself is plastic, the keys are pressed with some effort. Accidental presses in the pocket are possible, but less rare than on the same R320s. Results The big pluses include the ability to install interchangeable panels in cheerful colors and a really powerful battery that allows you to walk and use your phone for up to 6 days. The disadvantages include a very high price, more typical for phones of a non-budget class, the absence of a vibrating alert and a quiet ringtone. Not really a minus, but the menus open quite slowly. Plus - which allows you to work with the Russian language, but all the latest phone models can do this. I got the impression that the designers simply combined Ericsson R320s and DECT phone DT260 in this product. Hence the presence of rudimentary functions in the hybrid, hence the size. For me, A2618, with all its accessibility, is described in a simple word - exotic. Author: Eldar Murtazin See other articles Section Mobile Legends. Read and write useful comments on this article.
