The usual set of garden tools: a shovel, a rake, a hoe... We are accustomed to their unchanged form for dozens of years and do not think that it is time for them to become more perfect.

Take, for example, a hoe. Its purpose is to loosen the soil, to help with weeding. But if a heavier hoe with a wide blade is needed to process freshly raised arable land with a thick layer of turf, then it would be more convenient to loosen the soil on a well-groomed garden bed with a smaller chopper. Of course, you can buy hoes of different sizes. But is it worth it to acquire a whole set of the same type of tools, if they can be replaced with one - universal, which is also easy to do with your own hands.

Changeling Hoe

Take a look at the picture: this lightweight gardening tool is very easy to use, as it has five working edges. Knife A is used for fine work - where an ordinary hoe could damage the roots, B and C - wider blades. Mutually perpendicular edges C and G form an angled undercut, with which you can easily cut the root of any weed. A sickle-shaped blade D can be used for pruning branches.

It is better to make such a hoe from a stainless steel plate or heat-treated steel.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Hydrogen truck Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck 24.09.2020

The cargo division of the Mercedes-Benz brand introduced the GenH2 concept truck, equipped with fuel cell electric motors. The energy source is liquefied hydrogen, which is stored on board the tractor.

Fuel cells for trucks will be jointly developed by Daimler Truck from Germany and Volvo Group from Sweden. The authors of the project intend to use liquefied hydrogen, because in this state the energy carrier has a much higher energy density compared to volume than gaseous hydrogen. This solution will reduce the volume and mass of fuel tanks.

Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck received two 40-liter liquid hydrogen tanks, which will provide a range of up to 1000 km without refueling. The fuel cell system will provide a total of 300 kW of power, with an additional 70 kW stored in the battery - this reserve will help the truck on acceleration or when driving in the city with a full load. Peak power will be 400 kW, but they will be available for a limited period of time. A production truck will be able to replenish the energy reserve in the batteries due to energy recovery during braking or store excess energy from fuel cells.

The hydrogen truck will be equipped with a pair of electric motors. The constant power of each electric motor is 312 hp, but you can temporarily increase the output of the motors up to 449 hp. The serial version of the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck will have a gross weight of 40 tons, taking into account the payload of 25 tons, which is comparable to the performance of the serial Mercedes-Benz Actros with internal combustion engines.
