The garden trolley with a wide capacious box and gratings for building up the sides is convenient for a wide variety of gardening and gardening jobs. However, everyone who deals with the earth, first of all, digs, is engaged in planting, sowing. The trolley, it turns out, is easy to adapt to perform these functions: it is possible to assemble a harvester on its basis, combining a number of tech or other operations. Of course, you will receive a non-motorized unit, designed only for your own strength.

The only detail that you will not need to do in the process of building a garden cart is the wheels: it is better to use bicycle or motorcycle ones; depending on the type of wheels, it is selected for the bushing and axle of the corresponding diameter. The rest of the details will have to be made by ourselves. But the only thing that can cause you difficulty is cutting a larger than usual number of threads at the ends of the mains.

From thick plywood, better waterproof, first of all, the trolley box is knocked down. For greater strength, its sides and bottom are fastened with metal corners, which are placed along the perimeter of the bottom. The box is attached to the axis of the trolley with the help of load-bearing wooden bars, corner clamps: limiting nuts prevent displacement along it. The handle and stand are bent from tubes of the same diameter.

When assembling, do not forget to first put the bars on the axis, fasten them to the bottom of the box, screw the fixing nut onto the axis until it stops, and then put on the corner clamp.

When working, it is often necessary to increase the height of the sides - to increase them. In such cases, use wooden bars; vertical racks are inserted into slots on the walls of the box. Nest brackets are bent from narrow metal strips and bolted to the inner walls of the box: four to each (Fig. 1).

Potato planter

Using additional devices, it is not difficult to force the cart and plant, for example, potatoes. To do this, you need to make an exciting drum and a hopper (Fig. 2), and also remove part of the bottom of the box. That is why the bottom is best assembled from three longitudinal strips; the middle one is removed, and a drum is placed on the bogie axle in its place. It must have pockets - cut out sectors with which the tubers will be captured. The size of the pockets and their number depend on the size of the tubers and the planting interval: they are adjustable using plug-in spacers (it is even more convenient to have replaceable drums).

For a quick change of drums, two grooves are made in them - transverse and radial. A thrust plate with a hole for the screw is inserted into the first one - the axis of the trolley must have a threaded depth, the screw is placed through the radial groove.

Make an exciting drum out of wood. It can also be of welded construction (see Figure 2A).

For a better supply of tubers to the pockets of the drum, the hopper is made with an inclined figured bottom. In its lower part there is a receiving window that limits the flow of tubers. And in order for them not to roll out of pockets and lie exactly in the furrow, it is necessary to put guide walls made of plywood with a height slightly greater than the radius of the drum; in front they are held by a low bar screwed to the bottom of the box.

The bottom, walls of the bunker and guides are fastened with metal corners.

Plow

This garden cart can also be used for digging the ground. Of course, there is no need to make a plow out of it and there is no need to put shares. We are talking about a simple corner blade plowing a furrow in the soil already prepared for sowing. The dump is bent from a sheet of metal 2 mm thick and mounted on the front wall of the box; the depth of the furrow is regulated by the height of the blade. When the trolley moves, it pushes the soil, rolling it off in both directions, so the lower - corner - part of the dump should not end with a point (Fig. 2 B).

Winnowing machine

The trolley is also suitable for sowing seeds (Fig. 3). To do this, you will have to put another drum and another bunker. The seed pockets will have a different configuration from the previous one, and they will have to be done a little differently: a through transverse hole is drilled in the place designated for the pocket, then a part of the sector is cut out, a coupling bolt or stud is inserted and the nuts are tightened. Thus, the cut out part - let's call it the regulating sector of the pocket - can move along the hairpin, changing the volume of the pocket (Fig. 4): it will depend on the size and number of seeds that should be sown in the furrow, in each nest. Mounting the drum on the axis - as in a potato planter.

Grain bunker - from any improvised container, a hole is cut in its bottom and a guide tube made of tin is attached. It should come as close as possible to the surface of the drum so that seeds cannot fall into the gap. The bunker is mounted on a grate supported by the box brackets.

With a small sowing depth and well-cultivated soil, the cart can also "close up" the seeds. To do this, a metal chain is bolted under the bottom of the box (not too heavy, of course). She, dragging along the arable land, will rake the earth into a furrow and fill it up.

Now our garden cart will plow a furrow, carefully, respecting the interval, put the seeds in it and cover them with earth.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

lettuce leaf color 19.05.2015

Lettuce, an indispensable component of the advertised Mediterranean cuisine, comes with green, yellowish, red or red-green leaves. Does color matter from a dietary point of view, or is it just a decorative effect?

Researchers from the University of the Basque Country, led by Usue Perez-Lopez, tried to answer this question. Using electron paramagnetic resonance, he and colleagues from the University of Pisa investigated the kinetics of reactions involving various components of the leaves of the Batavia green lettuce, the red-green Miracle of the Four Seasons, and the red Oakleaf. As befits salads, their leaves contained a lot of antioxidants. However, in greens they provided mainly a slow reaction to reactive oxygen species, in reds substances with fast reactions predominated, and in red-greens, quite expectedly, substances of both types were present.

"You don't have to think that one salad is better than another," says Perez-Garcia. "There may be components in the food that require a quick response of antioxidants, and there may be others that require a slow response."

In his new experiments, Pérez-Garcia will try to increase the antioxidant content of lettuce by subjecting it to short-term stress - pouring salt water, additional lighting, or exposing it to an atmosphere where there is a lot of carbon dioxide. The main task at the same time is not to cross the line and not reduce the yield.
