No doubt, a motor plow or a microtractor in a household plot is a jack-of-all-trades assistant. But where the plot is small, and trees and shrubs are planted quite densely in the garden, a walk-behind tractor with an internal combustion engine simply cannot turn around. This is where a simple but very effective one comes to the rescue! cultivator based on an electric motor from a washing machine. Its impeller with narrow long teeth leaves behind a perfectly loosened strip of earth with a width of about 120 mm at a digging depth of up to 150 mm.
And the overall layout of the structure ensures the minimum width of the working unit (without handles) - only 175 mm. This makes it easy to maneuver between the ridges, on narrow plots of land along the house, between the bushes - that is, where only hand tools could previously be used.
The main working body of the cultivator is a steel drum Ø 200 mm, to which narrow saber-shaped teeth are welded around the circumference. The layout of their ends (like the teeth of a circular saw) ensures uniform loosening of the soil along the width of the cultivated strip.
The frame is formed by a U-shaped steel pipe with an outer diameter of 20-25 mm. From below, pieces of steel corners 25x40 mm are welded to it, serving as brackets for the wheel axle and bolts that fasten the bearing plates of the electric motor. From above, to the longitudinal sections of the frame are bolted or welded handles bent from pipes of the same diameter.
The transmission of torque from the engine is carried out using a two-stage belt-chain transmission with a total gear ratio of about 35, which allows the use of a motor with a power of only 0,125 kW. From the output shaft, through a pulley Ø 40 mm, the moment is transmitted to a pulley Ø 300 mm, mounted on the intermediate shaft, from the second shank of which through the sprocket from the moped Z=10 - to the sprocket Z2=41, fixedly fixed on the impeller.

The electric motor and the housing of the intermediate shaft bearing assembly are mounted on a bearing steel plate 3-4 mm thick. The necessary rigidity is given to it by the second L-shaped plate connected to it in the upper part. In the lower part, both plates are connected to the frame corner with two bolts and can be rotated around a common axis - to adjust the chain tension. The power unit is fixed with a special screw.
To prevent wet clay soil from getting stuck between the teeth, two tubes running tangentially to the wheel drum are welded to the front horizontal cross member of the frame, serving as a cleaner.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens
02.05.2024
In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers.

Advanced Infrared Microscope
02.05.2024
Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>
Air trap for insects
01.05.2024
Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
Random news from the Archive This sweet word is meteorite
07.03.2002
After studying the Murchison and Murray meteorites that fell several decades ago in Australia, American chemists found simple sugars and glycerin in them. Their quantities are very small, however, judging by the isotopic composition, these are not pollution that got into the meteorite material already on Earth, but substances brought from space.
It is possible that the supply of organic compounds with meteorites (amino acids were found in the same two meteorites even earlier) played a role in the origin of life on Earth.
