I suggest that do-it-yourselfers who are engaged in the manufacture or have already made furniture with doors mounted on piano hinges, replace them with internal furniture ones, since the presence of piano hinges, even on high-quality furniture, clearly indicates its home-made origin and worsens the appearance.

However, a home craftsman who wishes to use a furniture hinge invisible from the outside of the door faces the problem of making a round recess on the inside of the door for each fly with a diameter of 36 mm with a flat bottom and a depth of 11 mm with a chipboard thickness of 15 mm. into which the door part of the furniture hinge should enter with an interference fit.

At a furniture factory, such recesses are drilled on a special machine with a tool resembling a finger cutter. I drilled with an ordinary electric drill with a simple drill of my own manufacture, which I offer to home-made people.

Hidden loop

It consists of two parts - a round mandrel and a flat drill itself. The mandrel is turned on a lathe from a steel bar of a suitable diameter. Its shape is simple, neither high precision nor a high class of surface finish is required here. However, it must be made from one installation so that there is no beating later. After removal from the machine, it is necessary to draw 2 axes at an angle of 90 degrees on the bottom of the mandrel through its center. Parallel to the first of them, at a distance of 25 mm from the bottom, drill a through hole with a diameter of 6 mm and saw the mandrel from the bottom to the hole to make a groove 2,5 mm wide. a package of hacksaw blades of the required thickness).

A through hole with a diameter of 17 mm is drilled parallel to the other axis at a distance of 4,5 mm from the bottom. An M6 thread is cut to the groove in this hole, and on the other side of the mandrel, this hole is drilled to the groove to a diameter of 6,5 mm: an M6x30 bolt is inserted into it and wrapped.

The drill is a piece of a file from a "rail cutter", sharpened on an emery wheel like an ordinary feather drill, only with slight differences in the heights of the cutting edges - only 1 mm (so that the bottom of the recess is flat).

The drill is inserted into the groove of the mandrel so that the distance from the bottom of the mandrel to the point of the center of the drill is about 12 mm, and is firmly clamped in the mandrel with a bolt. The center of the drill, of course, should be on the axis of rotation of the mandrel.

The tool is ready to go. Drilling recesses for the loop should be done with an electric drill, having previously passed a hole with a diameter of 1-2 mm to a depth of 10 mm in the center of the future recess. The electric drill must be of sufficient power: I did not succeed in drilling a recess, like a small hand drill. It is advisable to drill from one time to the depth until the bottom of the mandrel drops to the surface of the chipboard. In any case, before drilling recesses in the doors, it is advisable to try the operation on an unnecessary piece of chipboard.

Flat feather drills of another diameter necessary for the do-it-yourselfer can also be clamped into the mandrel.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

ultrasonic microphone 12.05.2005

Israeli engineers Yaharon Mayer and Boris Decovich patented a microphone without moving parts. Since the sound does not have to swing the membrane in this system, the microphone picks up much weaker sounds than conventional models.

It consists of a tube, at one end of which an ultrasound generator is installed, at the other - its detector. On the way, ultrasonic vibrations pass by a hole in the wall of the tube, through which sounds from the outside enter it. Adding up with ultrasound, they generate beats.

An electronic circuit compares these beats with the original ultrasound of a known frequency and reconstructs the incoming sound.
