You won't have time to look back - autumn will already come, it's time for the harvest. Collecting what the earth has ugly in the garden is not a particular problem. It is more difficult to harvest from fruit trees, especially if they are old and tall. And every gardener has to contrive to get high-lying fruits and berries. Some make all kinds of fruit pickers on sticks, some make mobile platforms.

I was convinced that the most convenient option is a light stepladder, which is quickly rearranged and freely installed under any crown. I do not do it on purpose, but use the existing ladder.

Ideally, of course, if there are two stairs - it costs nothing to make a stepladder out of them, tying only the tops. But one is enough if you additionally make an auxiliary support that replaces the second ladder. Making it is quite easy. This will require approximately the same blanks as for the main staircase (in the absence of them, such “substitutes” as poles and poles are quite suitable).

At the same time, I will give recommendations in case there is no main staircase in your household. Its manufacture will not cause difficulties, since if the material is available, only a hacksaw and a hammer with nails will be required.

So, we take two wooden beams with a section of 40x60 mm and a length of at least 2 m, lay them with an edge on a flat area so that there is a distance of 520 mm between the lower ends of the future staircase, and 320 mm between the upper ones. Moving a bar 60 mm wide along the beams in increments of 400 mm, we make markings for the future nests of the crossbars, which we then cut to a depth of 20 mm. For the crossbars, bars with a section of 30x60 mm and a length of 600 mm will be required. We insert them into the prepared nests and nail, starting from the extreme ones; we saw off the excess ends of the crossbars - and the ladder is ready.

Now we turn it over and, stepping back from the upper crossbar at a distance equal to the width of the supporting beam, we nail an additional crossbar: it will be the support for the stepladder. According to the same scheme, we make a second ladder, and if there is no special need for it, then a simplified design that will serve as just a support when using the main ladder in the "step-ladder" version. But in any case, the distance between the upper ends of the support beams and the cross section of the latter should be less than that of the stairs - 300 mm and 30x60 mm, respectively.

Ladder
Rice. 1. Main ladder: 1 - support beams (2 pcs.), 2 - crossbar, 3 - additional crossbar;
Rice. 2. Step-ladder support: 1 - support beams (2 pcs.), 2 - lower crossbar, 3 - diagonal strut (bracing), 4 - upper crossbar;
Rice. 3. Step-ladder assembly: 1 - main ladder, 2 - support of the step-ladder, 3 - additional rung of the ladder, 4 - upper rung of the support.

In the "support" option, we nail only the lower and upper crossbars, and we do not prepare nests for them in the support beams. And in order to exclude the possibility of warping, between the crossbars we fix a diagonal strut with a section of 30x50 mm (length - in place) at close range to them.

Now we connect the main and auxiliary stairs with the tops so that the “horns” of the latter enter between the support beams and the upper and supporting rungs of the main ladder: we get a stepladder, the upper ends of which will hold firmly without additional fastening, and the lower ends can move closer or further apart while maintaining stability.

With the help of such a ladder, I successfully harvest from the highest branches of cherries, bird cherry, apple trees: it stands great!

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The capacity of hard drives will dramatically increase 01.04.2012

Seagate was able to increase the data density in the hard drive by 55% - up to 1 Tbps per square inch. It is expected that the new technology within the next 10 years will make it possible to create hard drives with a capacity of up to 60 TB. Seagate Technology, the world's largest magnetic storage maker, has announced that it has achieved a data density of 1 Tbit (1 trillion bits) per square inch of hard drive platter. Seagate claims to be the first in the market to reach this milestone and reports that the 1 trillion bits that the company's new technology can record per 1 square inch is significantly more than the stars in our galaxy, the number of which ranges from 200 to 400 billion .

It was possible to increase the density of data recording due to the transition to a new generation technology called thermally assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), Seagate said. This technology opens up new perspectives in the traditional hard drive market. The company claims that on its basis over the next 10 years it will be possible to create hard drives with a capacity of up to 60 TB. The current-generation technology used in today's hard drives, called Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR), will reach the 1TB per square inch limit within the next few years, after which it will no longer be developed, Seagate stressed.

PMR technology, in turn, has replaced the longitudinal recording technology that has been used since the inception of the personal magnetic storage market in 1956. Today, PRM offers a recording density of 620 Gbps per square inch. Thus, already now HAMR technology offers a 55% increase in density. The company said that the new technology solves the problem of data distortion, which occurs in current generation technology due to the fact that the cell size becomes too small.

The capacity of modern hard drives with a recording density of 620 Gb per square inch is 3 TB in the case of a 3,5-inch form factor and 750 GB in the case of a 2,5-inch one. HAMR technology already at the initial stage will make it possible to create hard drives with a capacity of 6 and 2 TB, respectively. The maximum theoretical density when using HAMR is 5-20 Tbps per square inch. This is equivalent to a 3,5-30TB 60" HDD and a 2,5-10TB 20" HDD.

"The development of social networks, search technologies, cloud computing, the growth of multimedia content and other areas force us to look for new ways to increase capacity," commented Mark Re, Seagate's senior vice president of engineering. "Innovations such as HAMR, will play a key role in the further development of the information industry."

Note that the magnetic storage market is going through hard times. It was hit by floods in Thailand last year, which led to a shortage of hard drives and reduced shipments of personal computers to the global market. In addition, manufacturers are under increasing competitive pressure from flash memory. In August 2011, major vendors formed an alliance to shape the future of the hard drive industry.
