A joyful event - the acquisition of a garden plot - is often overshadowed by the lack of an electrical network in this undeveloped territory. It was in such a situation that I made a gasoline-powered sawing machine, which makes it possible to speed up the process of building a house.

One more function of the machine - work in the mode of the generator of the electric power. I think that such a universal installation will be of interest to many amateur builders.

Technical characteristics of the sawing machine-generator:

The basis of the design is a frame from a road bike, cut off from above. It is fixed with M8 screws on two long steel supports made of profiles of the "corner" type, installed parallel to each other. These supports, in turn, are attached with M6 screws to the tabletop of the workbench. A saw blade with a diameter of 250 mm is mounted on a hub from a bicycle front wheel using four M4 screws. On the other side, an asterisk (Z=10) is soldered to the bushing, made from the drive sprocket of the D-6 engine.

The power plant of the machine is the D-6 engine. The clutch control mechanisms have been removed from it. Starting is done with a starter from a Druzhba chainsaw. To do this, a Ø 21 mm hole was drilled in the engine cover covering the magneto - a ratchet passes through it and is screwed onto the shaft of the crank mechanism. To install the starter, a bracket-spacer made of a 28 mm thick board is used. Four M4 mounting screws also pass through the holes in the magneto cover.

The throttle control handle and gas tank are mounted on wooden racks. To fix the position of the throttle valve, a steel plate with an M5 thread for the lamb is brazed on the outer sleeve of the handle. The transmission of torque from the engine to the saw blade is carried out by a chain drive.

The frame of the circular is completely wooden: the tabletop is made of a sheet of plywood 16 mm thick, the legs are made of bars with a section of 50x50 mm. The rigidity of the frame is provided by braces. The required sawing width is set by a restrictive board (40x200x400 mm) with two transverse grooves for wing screws. During cross cutting, the limit board is removed and the bevel tooth blade is replaced with a straight tooth saw blade.

The transfer of the machine to the generator mode is carried out in the following way. The G-424 generator from the Dnepr motorcycle is fixed with clamps to the transverse boards between the legs of the workbench. A drive sprocket (Z=10) is mounted on the key on the shank of the engine crankshaft using a screw. A chain is stretched between it and the generator sprocket. The clutch cover is then removed. For the operation of the generator, it is necessary to use a relay regulator, and connect a battery or a battery of series-connected elements with a total voltage of 12 V to the excitation winding. If a battery is used, it will be recharged when the generator reaches nominal speed.

It is necessary to operate the sawing machine outdoors, orienting the gasoline-powered unit in such a way that the wind carries the sawdust away from the air filter. Installing a protective screen would reduce clogging.

More than five years of experience on such a machine proves its reliability, but the absence of a fan and deflector on the engine causes overheating under heavy load. Therefore, in order for the engine to have time to cool, it is necessary to work in an intermittent mode. When paired with a generator, the load is much less and overheating does not occur.

A quantum processor woven from light 26.10.2019

An international team of scientists has made a processor for a universal quantum computer, creating a sufficiently large cluster state for the first time in 20 years of research in this area.

Quantum computers promise to solve problems too complex for classical machines, but they need a lot of components to do so, and they all need to be relatively accurate. Modern quantum computers are still too small and often make mistakes. A new design of cluster states, proposed by scientists from Australia, Japan and the USA, provides the necessary scale and, finally, can surpass classical computers.

Cluster states are a set of entangled quantum components that perform quantum computations. To be useful for solving real problems, a cluster state must be both large enough and have the correct entanglement structure. However, in the 20 years since they were proposed, scientists have not been able to achieve both at the same time, explained Nicholas Menicucci of the University of Melbourne. "We were the first to achieve both," he said.

To obtain cluster states, crystals created in a special way convert ordinary laser light and quantum light, the so-called squeezed light. Which is then woven into a cluster state with a network of mirrors, beam splitters, and optical fibers.

This design allows the generation of a huge two-dimensional cluster state with the ability to scale - enough to create a universal quantum computer. Although the level of compression - a measure of quality - is still too low for solving practical problems, the proposed scheme will make it possible to achieve high levels of compression.
