Why did Marvel fight to have X-Men action figures recognized as toys instead of dolls?

In 2003, Marvel's toy division Toy Biz filed a complaint with the U.S. Court of International Trade for illegal customs fees. The petition stated that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four are non-human beings and should therefore be categorized as toys, not dolls. Toy Biz had a clear economic interest, because the tariffs on importing dolls into the United States are higher than the tariffs on importing toys, and the judge granted the complaint. This fact caused a negative reaction from the fan community, because one of the central themes of X-Men comics about mutants is their struggle to recognize their humanity.

How did slang (jargon) appear?

For example, slang can be created by combining several words, for example, scab, shortening words (mike, ok), onomatopoeia (boom, fuck), borrowing from foreign languages (samurai, driver), and also by analogy (sew, take away ).

Different types of jargon arise for different reasons and under different conditions. One of the common ways is the emergence of new words and phrases in one professional group. For example, students say "unsuccessful", "spur". Motorists call their cars "four", "nine".

But it should be remembered that often slang words used by one group may have a different meaning in other groups. Some conditions accelerate the emergence of new words. For example, the formation of new groups containing different segments of the population and representatives of different nationalities leads to the rapid emergence of new slang. As, for example, in the armed forces: "woki-toki", "AWOL", "demobilization".

Sometimes a new word comes up with one person, and it is picked up by the rest. In most cases, new expressions that were once related to slang eventually find their way into dictionaries.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

5 GHz processor 14.06.2013

Already in the summer of 2013, AMD plans to ship the first desktop processor capable of operating at 5 GHz. AMD has unveiled the world's first 3GHz-capable personal computer processor, the AMD FX-5, at the E9590 gaming industry show in Los Angeles.

The AMD FX-9590, codenamed Vishera, is based on the Piledriver microprocessor architecture, which is the successor to the Bulldozer. The processor has 8 cores and is manufactured based on the 32nm process standard. The company did not disclose the technical characteristics of the processor, including its power consumption, however, as DailyTech explains, we are talking about the frequency in the Turbo Core technology activation mode, that is, in the overclocking mode. The approximate value of the base frequency is 4,5 GHz.

All processors in the AMD FX line support Turbo Core technology, but none of them is capable of operating at frequencies above 4,2 GHz. The power consumption (TDP) of the most powerful AMD FX processors in existence is 125W.
The new chip, like other processors in the family, is designed for gamers and enthusiasts. AMD plans to start shipping it in the summer of 2013.

In addition to AMD FX-9590, the company introduced the FX-9370 model with support for 4,7 GHz. It is also based on the Piledriver architecture, has 8 cores and is manufactured on the basis of the 32nm norm. Both processors support overclocking, that is, the clock frequency at which they are able to operate can be increased.

AMD's success story includes first breaking the 1 GHz milestone in 2000, as well as the release of the first true 2- and 4-core processors (all cores on a single die) and the release of the first APU (central and graphics cores on a single die) . Now AMD does not own production facilities, but is only engaged in design activities. In 2009, the company's factories were spun off into Globalfoundries, a joint venture with Arab investment company ATIC. Globalfoundries, among other things, manufactures AMD processors.
