In humans and other mammals, there are two types of fat cells - white and brown. Recently, scientists have discovered that exercise causes the release of a previously unknown hormone, irisin, which causes white fat to turn brown and also increases the body's sensitivity to glucose. Experiments conducted on mice have shown that simple injections of irisin without physical activity help to reduce weight. It is assumed that drugs based on this hormone will dramatically increase the effectiveness of the treatment of obesity and diabetes.
