Who and when made the discovery that doctors in hospitals need to wash and disinfect their hands?

In 1846, the Hungarian physician Ignash Semmelweis drew attention to mortality in the maternity wards of a Vienna hospital: in one of them, deaths from postpartum sepsis were much more frequent than in the other. It was in the department with increased mortality that medical students helped to give birth, who also worked in the infectious diseases department and dissected corpses. Semmelweis suggested that they were left with "cadaverous particles" on their hands, which are responsible for the disease. Then he suggested washing hands thoroughly, treating them and medical instruments with a solution of bleach, which none of the doctors had practiced before, and this measure turned out to be very effective. Although during his lifetime Semmelweis almost did not find supporters of his discovery, was fired from the hospital, and later died, ironically, from the same sepsis, he became the founder of modern hygiene.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Samsung Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Young 2 and Galaxy Star 2 smartphones 01.07.2014

Samsung has announced several new smartphones of completely different lines. The range of the manufacturer was replenished with models Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Young 2 and Galaxy Star 2.

All devices belong to the budget segment, but represent its different levels. So, Galaxy Core II has the largest display with a diagonal of 4,5 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and the most productive quad-core platform with a frequency of 1,2 GHz.

It has 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of flash memory, of course, expandable via microSD cards. The device is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0 adapters, a 2000 mAh battery and runs on Android 4.4. Its dimensions are 130,3 x 68 x 9,8 mm with a weight of 138 g.

Galaxy Young 2 received a 3,5-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, a single-core platform with a frequency of 1 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. In addition, the novelty is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera, lacks a front camera and has a 1300 mAh battery. The dimensions of the device are 109,8 x 59,9 x 11,8 mm with a weight of 108 g. Like the previous smartphone, Galaxy Young 2 is running Android 4.4.

The youngest among the presented and concurrently one of the most budgetary Samsung smartphones - Galaxy Star 2, is equipped with the same screen as the previous model. It is based on the Spreadtrum SC6815 platform with a single 7GHz Cortex-A1 processor core. The amount of RAM and flash memory did not decrease - 512 MB and 4 GB, respectively. The kid is also deprived of a front camera, and the rear has a resolution of only 2 megapixels. The battery capacity is 1300 mAh. The dimensions of the smartphone are identical to the Galaxy Young 2. Actually, it is almost impossible to distinguish them from the outside. I am glad that even the most budget smartphone is still running Android 4.4.

All novelties will be available in versions with support for two SIM cards.
