When and where did the tram run on rails laid at the bottom of the sea?

In 1896, between the English cities of Brighton and Rottingdean, an unusual vehicle called Daddy Long Legs began to run - a cross between a tram and a ferry. Laying the railway overland on this route required a lot of engineering structures, and engineer Magnus Volk proposed laying the rails directly on the seabed - the total length of the track was 4,5 km. The platform with passengers rose above the rails on four pillars 7 meters long and had a flag, a lifeboat and other maritime attributes, as it was formally considered a ship. The service was canceled in 1901 when it was decided to build new breakwaters near Brighton, and the transfer of the track was considered too costly.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Car camera in the license plate light 04.04.2014

Neoline announced the start of sales of the SC-02 car camera used as part of the on-board video surveillance system. The camera is installed in the license plate light and greatly facilitates driving, especially in cases where rear visibility is limited by the design features of the body.

Modern car models are often equipped with infotainment complexes, which make it possible to significantly simplify the management of multimedia systems and individual settings for the driver and passengers. Many manufacturers equip cars with navigation systems, burglar alarms, video surveillance devices, means for adjusting the position of mirrors, passenger seats, etc. Meanwhile, electronic means of improving visibility are still present only in top trim levels and models of the most expensive brands, Neoline notes. At the same time, the presence of such a system can greatly facilitate the life of the driver, improving visibility while driving, and help when parking the car.

Neoline SC-02 is a compact camera that, with the help of additional fasteners, can be installed in a car of almost any brand (more than 100 models). The novelty can be connected to the infotaiment system without a complex installation and intervention in the on-board electronic systems, while maintaining the manufacturer's warranty for the car.

The image from the camera is transmitted to the screen of the on-board system and allows the driver, without being distracted and without leaving the car, to fully control the space behind the car. At the same time, the SC-02 camera, which has a viewing angle of 100 degrees, significantly complements the capabilities of the rear-view mirror system. The camera is equipped with LED-backlight, which will give confidence in the dark.

Neoline SC-02 performs the function of a parking assistant, which is relevant not only for beginners, but also for experienced drivers. Thanks to the parking lines that the camera draws, the driver will be able to more accurately "fit" into the parking space.

The novelty can be connected to standard car video systems with standard AV-IN connectors. In cases where such a connector is not available, or the car is not equipped with an on-board video system at all, additional devices can be used. The camera can be connected to a multimedia system, remote car TV, or other device that has an AV input. In addition, the camera can be paired with interior screens purchased separately, including Neoline screens.

The cost of Neoline SC-02 in retail is about 1500 rubles, the novelty will appear in Russian retail in early April 2014.
