Which Russian writer contributed to the independence of India?

In 1908, Leo Tolstoy received a letter from an Indian revolutionary, Taraknath Das, seeking support for the idea of ​​Indian independence. In response, Tolstoy wrote a "Letter to a Hindu", published in the Free Hindustan magazine, in which he expressed the opinion that gaining independence from England was possible only through non-violent methods. The ideas of non-resistance to evil by violence, outlined in this work and in another article by the writer "The Kingdom of God is within you", had a strong influence on the young Mahatma Gandhi, who later led the nationalist movement of India and achieved its peaceful separation from England in 1947.

What is radio astronomy?

In 1931, a communications engineer at Bell Laboratories was investigating atmospheric radio interference that could affect transoceanic telephone communications. He caught some noises, clearly not coming from a thundercloud, but from somewhere in space. He discovered that it is possible to receive radiation from the galaxy. Thus was born a new branch of astronomy - radio astronomy.

Radio astronomy is developing in two directions. With the help of special antennas, it is possible to capture the radiation of space objects. This may be thermal radiation (radiation of radio waves emitted by any hot body). But there are also noises, or static interference of cosmic origin, also picked up from space, but not at all thermal in origin. Another branch of radio astronomy is sending signals to objects such as meteors and the Moon and picking up their reflections. This is how radar works.

Radio astronomy is most useful for studying the Sun, meteors, the Moon, and the planets of the solar system. By capturing the reflection of rays from meteors, we learn a lot about their orbits. Exploring the moon using radio astronomy techniques, we learn a lot about its surface. So, even before people set foot on the moon, thanks to radio astronomy data, scientists already knew that its surface is a rock crushed into dust. Probably one of the most exciting areas of radio astronomy is the search for signals from other worlds.

Now radio telescopes have been improved to the point where they can pick up signals coming from a distance of almost eighty trillion kilometers. What signals are scientists hoping to pick up? It is believed that if somewhere in deep space there is a civilization other than ours, and it wants to make its presence known, then our brothers in mind will probably send some very simple signal, such as a series of numbers.

It is also believed that these signals are likely to be received at a purity of 1420 MHz - the frequency at which simple hydrogen emits radiation waves in outer space.

Research in the field of the psychology of time continues to surprise us with its results. Recent discoveries by scientists from George Mason University (USA) turned out to be quite remarkable: they discovered that what we look at can greatly influence our sense of time. During the experiment, 52 participants took a series of tests, estimating the duration of viewing various images. The results were surprising: the size and detail of the images had a significant impact on the perception of time. Samsung WB2200 60x optical zoom camera 08.01.2014

Launched in July last year, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 digital camera was the first in the world to offer users a 60x optical zoom. Six months later, a camera with such an impressive optical zoom appeared at Samsung. The novelty, which debuted at the beginning of CES 2014, was named WB2200.

Samsung WB2200 received a lens that covers a range of focal lengths from 20 to 1200 mm, the maximum aperture changes from F / 2,8 to F / 5,9 as the focal length changes. The developers, of course, did not forget about the presence of an optical stabilization system.

The camera is equipped with a 1/2,3-inch BSI CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 16,3 million pixels, an electronic viewfinder, Wi-Fi and NFC wireless modules. NFC is used to quickly pair the camera and a mobile device (smartphone or tablet), while Wi-Fi is used to transfer pictures to mobile devices or by e-mail, as well as to update the device firmware.

Display Samsung WB2200 is characterized by a diagonal of 3 inches and a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels.

Samsung WB2200 allows you to record Full HD video at 30 fps, when you lower the resolution to 384 x 288 pixels, 240 fps becomes available. When taking photos, intelligent auto and full manual modes are available. SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards are used to store photo and video materials, and AV and HDMI video outputs are used to display pictures on a large screen.

The design of the WB2200, which is non-standard for a compact camera, attracts attention. As the creators note, this form of the case provides a more comfortable grip, and, in addition, allows you to place a high-capacity battery.
