Who Invented Comics?

Of course, you know that some things that existed a long time ago are very different from their modern version. There is no better example than modern comics or cartoons.

The forerunner of the comic book was invented by renaissance artists. First, they drew sketches of paintings, frescoes, tapestries or stained glass windows on a piece of cardboard, which occupied a large area. The technique of using sketches, called cardboard, has been preserved by artists to this day.

Then newspapers and magazines began to use drawings as illustrations for news and commentary, as well as just for entertainment. These pictures were called cartoons.

Even earlier, when there were no newspapers, the famous cartoonists Hogarth, Goya, Daumier and Rowlandson drew a whole series of pictures on the topic. These pictures were often dedicated to the adventures of one character. They were the forerunners of modern comics. In the late XNUMXth and early XNUMXth centuries, magazines began to appear that printed only comics - Sharivari in Paris, Punch in London and Life and Judge in the USA. When most newspapers and magazines in the United States began to include comics in every issue, many humor magazines lost their influence on readers and ceased to exist.

The first comics appeared at the beginning of the 1902th century. Richard Outcolt came up with a comic strip called "Buster Brown" and published it in XNUMX. It was so popular that kids all over the country played Buster Brown.

Another famous comic book that appeared in 1912 was called Father's Education. It has been translated into 27 languages and published in 71 countries around the world.

What keeps the Moon in Earth orbit?

Our natural satellite does not allow its orbital velocity, which exceeds the first cosmic one, to fall behind the Earth.

And to escape from the gravitational embrace of the Earth and forever leave its environs is prevented by the Earth's gravity, to overcome which the orbital velocity of the Moon is not large enough (less than the second cosmic velocity).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Volvo self-driving cars 06.08.2013

Volvo, like many other automakers, is interested in building cars that can drive without a driver. She, of course, wants to get ahead of everyone, even Google, so she has been developing the appropriate technology for a long time. The other day, she passed another series of field tests, the results of which Volvo was very pleased with.

Officially, the main goal of creating a system of unmanned control of the car, Volvo calls the desire to reduce the number of accidents and victims on the roads by 2020. In principle, this may indeed be the case, since her cars are considered among the safest in the world.

Its system of autonomous control of cars includes several technologies at once, including those that have long been present in mass-produced cars. In particular, the development of Volvo includes the function of detecting pedestrians on the roads and other obstacles - vehicles, damage to the road surface, and so on. Naturally, the corresponding sensors are connected to the braking system.

At the same time, Volvo teaches its cars to park without a driver, to drive in a convoy (one car is driving and driven by a person, the rest of the unmanned vehicles follow it strictly at a certain speed). Cruise control, of course, will also become part of this system. And speaking of parking, it will be possible to drive a car trying to park carefully at the curb directly from a smartphone or tablet computer - Volvo is developing applications for this.

If the current pace of development of Volvo's new technology continues, it could very well be part of its series-produced vehicles by the end of next year.
