How do spiders travel great distances through the air?

Spiders, especially young light individuals, are capable of ballooning. Having gone out into the open area, the spider lifts its abdomen up and releases several threads, from which it usually makes a web. But in this case, the threads form a semblance of a parachute and allow the spider to glide in the air currents. Usually the range of such a journey does not exceed a few meters, but sometimes spiders can be carried very far, which allowed them to colonize any corner of the land on the planet and the most remote islands.

Why does the moon follow us when we drive?

The Moon may not seem very far from us, but its average distance from Earth is 239 miles. The diameter of the moon is 000 miles, which is less than the length of the United States from coast to coast. But if you look at the Moon with a very powerful telescope, it looks like it's no more than 2160 miles away. Because the Moon seems so close and large to us, we sometimes forget that 200 miles is quite a distance. It is this huge distance that explains why when we drive a car and look at the moon, it seems to us that it is following us.

First of all, it must be said that it just seems to us - it's just a feeling, a psychological reaction. As we race along the road, we notice everything flying past us in the opposite direction: trees, houses, fences, the road. And we also expect the Moon to fly past us, or at least go back, the further forward we go. When this does not happen, it seems to us that she is "chasing" us.

But why is it so? From the fact that the distance from the Earth to the Moon is very large. Compared to the distance our car travels in a few minutes, this distance is enormous. Therefore, when we drive, the angle at which we see the Moon remains almost unchanged. Indeed, we can travel in a straight line for a long, long time, and the angle at which we see the Moon will remain practically unchanged. And while everything flies past us, the feeling that the moon "haunts" us remains.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Over 10Gbps speed shown for 5G on the move 27.07.2018

NTT DoCoMo, AGC and Ericsson successfully field-tested fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications technology in a vehicle driven at high speed in Japan.

During testing, the frequency range of 28 GHz was used. The vehicle was equipped with special antenna modules mounted on glass surfaces. In total, experts used eight such modules - on the side windows, windshield and rear windows. This ensured the reception of signals from any direction.

The tests were carried out on a section of the road with a length of 2,2 kilometers. 5G mobile equipment was installed in the car, and three stationary base stations were installed on the territory of the test zone.

As a result, it was possible to show throughput at the level of 8 Gbit / s when the car is moving at speeds up to 100 km / h. Moreover, the bandwidth of the channel reached 11 Gb / s while reducing the speed of the car to 30 km / h.

Thus, tests have shown that 5G networks will provide connected cars and self-driving vehicles with ultra-fast communication channels. This will usher in an era of completely new services and telematic services.
