Which birds can control the development of chicks in eggs by song?

Zebra finches, birds of the family of weaver finches, can control the development of chicks in eggs by song, adapting them to a hot climate. If the ambient temperature exceeds 26 ° C, the parent incubating eggs in the last days before hatching from time to time emits a special cry. It helps to slow down the growth of chicks, which are more resistant to high temperatures compared to their normal-sized counterparts. Scientists got the same results in the laboratory, playing a recorded song to the eggs. Adaptation also appears in the second generation, when females that weigh less at an early age produce more chicks.

How fast does blood flow in human vessels?

The speed of blood flow in various vessels of the human circulatory system is different, and varies within a fairly wide range.

In the capillaries, blood moves at a linear speed of 0,5 millimeters per second, in arterioles - 4 millimeters per second, in the superior and inferior vena cava - 20 centimeters per second. In the main artery of the circulatory system (aorta), the blood moves in jerks, while the linear velocity of blood flow changes from 0 to 120 centimeters per second (the average linear velocity is 40 centimeters per second).

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Liquid cooling system Eisbaer LT 92 31.08.2020

Alphacool introduced the Eisbaer LT 92 liquid cooling system designed for small computers. It can be considered a lighter version of the classic Eisbaer LT, devoid of quick couplings for positioning purposes and supplied with hoses only 25 cm long.

Despite the small size of the copper radiator, equal to 134 x 90 x 30 mm, LSS provides sufficient cooling even for powerful processors. The DC-LT pump, running at 2600 rpm, generates a flow of 70 l/h. It is combined with a copper water block into a block with dimensions of 69 x 69 x 39 mm.

Complete mounts provide compatibility with AMD processors AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, 939, FM2+, FM2, FM1, G34 and 940, as well as Intel processors LGA 2066, 115x, 755, 2011-3, 2011 , 1366 and 1200.

The Eisbaer LT 92 uses hoses and fittings from the Enterprise Solution series, which are more reliable and kink resistant. Fans are not included.

The price of the novelty is 73,09 euros.
