Who found the stolen 1966 FIFA World Cup trophy?

Shortly before the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, his main trophy was stolen from a public display. The police and Scotland Yard were involved in the search, but the cup was discovered seven days later in the bushes of one of the London gardens thanks to a dog named Pickles, who was walking there with the owner. After winning the championship of the England team, the dog was invited to a banquet and got the right to lick the plates of the players.

What animals are able to remove foreign objects from their body through the bladder?

Frogs are able to remove foreign objects from their bodies through their bladders. This discovery was made by Australian scientists by accident. During the experiments, they implanted transmitters into the bodies of frogs. A few weeks later, the frogs were caught and found that most of the devices had moved into the bladders, and some came out with the urine. It turned out that when a foreign body appears, soft tissues begin to grow to it, which gradually envelop the object and draw it into the bladder.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

The extinction of the species depends on the size of the animals 25.09.2017

Small and large animal species are more at risk of becoming extinct than medium-sized animals. This discovery was made by a group of scientists from the University of Oregon.

Biologists have conducted a study of 27 thousand species of vertebrates that are on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. 4400 of the studied species are under the threat of complete extinction: birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish. It turned out that large and small animals are most at risk of extinction, and the reasons for their extinction are completely different.

The main reason for the extinction of large species is human actions, since it is these animals that people most often kill and eat. Large species are most often the objects of hunting and poaching.

The smallest species of animals, whose weight does not exceed 77 grams, are also more at risk of extinction than others. The main reason for the extinction of these species is the loss of habitats.

Effective conservation will help to preserve unique animal species, and different strategies should be developed for the conservation of large and small species.
