Where can the governor approve a law passed by parliament, completely changing its meaning?

In almost all US states, governors have a partial veto. This means that they can, in one way or another, edit the text of a law passed by the state parliament without vetoing the entire law.

The most controversial applications of this right are found in Wisconsin, where it is not limited by any conditions. So, in 1973, Governor Patrick Lucy crossed out the two in the law appropriating $25 million, thereby reducing the amount by five. In another act, he crossed out the word “not” in the phrase “not less than 50%,” changing the meaning to the opposite.

How does a CD work?

In contrast to gramophone records, on which the sound is recorded with an oscillating needle in the form of a thin groove, for recording on a CD, the sound is first digitized, and then, in the form of a microscopic size of "dots", is burned on the surface of a thin aluminum foil by a laser beam. During playback, the laser beam illuminates the disc, "reads" the set of recorded "dots", and then the signal is again converted into sound form.

There are also CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs for storing more information on them.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

High-capacity Industrial Slim SATA SSDs from Virtium 10.02.2013

Networking and industrial embedded systems are the main applications for Virtium's StorFly 200 SSDs. According to the manufacturer, Virtium StorFly is the most capacious industrial SSD in Slim SATA (MO-297) size. The volume of drives reaches 512 GB. However, they take up only 15% of the space required by 2,5-inch drives, since their dimensions are 54 x 39 x 4 mm.

The manufacturer offers drives in four classes: CE, RE, XE and PE. The former uses consumer-grade MLC NAND flash, which accounts for the claimed 36TB total write capacity (hereinafter, the figure is based on a 256GB SSD). The RE drives use industrial-grade MLC NAND flash for extended lifespan up to 90TB. Even more, 700TB is the maximum write capacity of the XE drives, which use "long life" industrial-grade MLC NAND flash. Finally, PE drives use SLC NAND flash. These drives can handle 1825TB of writes.

CE drives are available in 32-512 GB, RE - 16-512 GB, XE and PE - 8-256 GB. In terms of performance, all SSDs exhibit sequential read speeds up to 250MB/s. Drives of the first three classes can write data at speeds up to 190 MB / s, the fourth - up to 200 MB / s. Performance on read operations is 12000-15000 IOPS, on write operations - 2000 IOPS.

Miniature drives are available in two modifications, designed for operation in the temperature range from 0 to 70 °C and from -40 °C to +85 °C.
