In which city is there a mosque in which Jews also perform their services?

The Bronx, New York's famous neighborhood, has seen a decline in the Jewish population for years. The declining number of parishioners left the Chabad synagogue, which was attended by ultra-Orthodox Jews, destitute in 2007. However, the parishioners were not left without a place for prayers - they were sheltered by the imam of the local Al-Iman mosque.

The Muslims gave the Jews a large room, where they set up a temporary synagogue until they found an opportunity to set up a new parish of their own.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Why do floods happen?

Throughout the history of mankind, a lot of evidence, stories and legends about major floods have accumulated. The reason for this is simple: there have always been floods. Primitive people deliberately settled in the valleys located on the path of floods - because the lands here were fertile. What is a flood? This is a state where water overflows its banks and spreads everywhere.

What causes floods? - accumulation of a large amount of water in the river as a result of heavy rains. Water may come from other sources or reservoirs from where it flows into a river. A river usually surrounds a large area, or "basin", and a strong flow of water from anywhere in this basin causes the water level in the river to rise and flood the banks. Some floods are very helpful. The Nile, for example, every year from time immemorial, along with flooded water, brings fertile silt from the highlands.

On the other hand, the Yellow River in China periodically causes loss of life and destruction. For example, in 1935, due to the flood of this river, 4 million people were left without a roof over their heads! Can floods be prevented? This is probably impossible, because heavy rains come regardless of the will of man. But great efforts are being made to curb the floods, and someday, perhaps, this will be done.

There are three ways to curb floods. One of them is to build dams and make embankments to protect agricultural land in places where water reaches. The second way is to arrange emergency channels, or weirs, to drain excess water. The third way is to contain large reservoirs for the accumulation of water and its gradual discharge into large streams.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Human warmth - a threat to computer security 15.07.2018

Human fingers leave thermal fingerprints on keyboard keys, which can be exploited by hackers.

The new attack was called Thermanator. According to experts from the University of California, Irvine, attackers can learn the password that a person recently entered on a physical PC keyboard using a thermal imager to capture mid-range waves. By pointing the camera at the keys within a minute of typing, hackers will see a thermal fingerprint.

Scientists say that in order to carry out an attack, hackers will have to install a thermal imager over the victim in advance. At the same time, even non-specialists will be able to decrypt the received data.

Experts have concluded that it is time to move away from passwords as a way to protect user data and equipment, as high-quality thermal cameras and other similar devices become more accessible to the mass consumer.

Earlier, researchers discovered a technical bug in the popular Google Chrome browser, thanks to which hackers can intimidate the victim with a "boot bomb".
