When using LED garlands for window dressing, sign lighting, etc., it is convenient to power them directly from the mains through a rectifier and a ballast resistor so as not to install an additional low-voltage power supply. But in the pauses between half-cycles of the rectified mains voltage, the LEDs are not powered, which leads to their unpleasant flickering.

The proposed device (Fig. 1) eliminates flicker, operates on AC voltage 120...230 V and allows you to adjust the output voltage.

Power supply of LEDs from a network of 120-230 volts

The operation of the circuit is based on controlling the opening time of the key transistor VT2. When the rectified voltage is below the threshold Upor set by the zener diode VD5, the zener diode is closed, respectively, the transistor VT1 is also closed. The rectified voltage through R4 is applied to the gate VT2, and it turns on. Zener diode VD6 limits the voltage at the gate VT2. Through the open VT2, the storage capacitor C2 is charged and the chain of LEDs HL1 ... HL11 is powered.

When the rectified voltage exceeds Upor, the zener diode VD5 breaks through and opens the transistor VT1, which shunts the gate VT2, and the latter closes. The LEDs are powered by a charged capacitor C2, the voltage on it gradually decreases (Fig. 2). Diode VD7 prevents the discharge of C2 through the control circuit.

Power supply of LEDs from a network of 120-230 volts

The duration of the output voltage drop is determined by the load current and capacitance C2. For the normal glow of the LEDs, the voltage on C2 should not fall below the ignition threshold of the garland. The VT2 key opens only at low voltage, due to which the power dissipated on it is small. Resistor - fuse R1 protects the circuit and limits the inrush current when the AC voltage is turned on. The L1-C1 filter eliminates high-frequency noise that occurs during the operation of the circuit.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Jeans with pockets for smartphone and charger 12.08.2015

Carrying a smartphone in the back pocket of jeans is a habit for many users. This habit can lead to damage not only to the smartphone, but also to jeans. Joe's Jeans has offered mobile device owners a new type of jeans with a special pocket for their existing smartphone. It should be noted that the dimensions of this pocket are designed for the iPhone, but, in principle, any smartphone with similar dimensions can be carried in it.

A special pocket is located just above and to the right of the back right side pocket of the jeans. It is placed in such a way as to protect the smartphone from possible contact with hard surfaces.
In addition to a special pocket for a smartphone, Joe's Jeans also has a pocket for a portable battery. The idea is that by placing the smartphone in a special pocket, its owner may want to recharge the mobile device on the go by connecting it to the battery with a short cord.

Joe's Jeans are designed for women, although it is doubtful that any fashionista will like such a product with a battery. The portable battery will reportedly charge the iPhone 5/5s/5c smartphone from 0 to 100% or the iPhone 6 battery up to 85% capacity.

The cost of jeans without a battery is $189.
