Scientists from the Department of Electrical Engineering, as well as Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering NUS - National University of Singapore, have invented the latest multilayer ultrathin film, which can be used as a carrier, storage, processing of information on new generation magnetic media.

This film is an important step in creating storage devices that run faster and use less power. It is based on the discovery in 2009 of a skyrmion, which is a magnetic vortex formation, a few nanometers in size. They were studied as potential carriers of information of the next generation. Skyrmions are found in layered systems of various heavy metals placed under a ferromagnetic material.
