Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is environmental protection?

Around the world, people are campaigning for the environment. What does this expression mean? Some people under the protection of the environment understand, first of all, the preservation of intact not so numerous corners of virgin nature, untouched by man, remaining on Earth. Others - the conservation of various species of animals and plants.

Environmental protection also includes efforts to protect forests from deforestation and the prudent use of all natural resources in general. The problem of protecting the environment has become vital today, because right now humanity needs more diverse natural resources than ever before.

As the number of people on our planet grows and their standard of living rises, they put their hand deeper into the pantry of nature. Resources should be "protected" in the name of preserving both the planet itself and the future of mankind. What does this word - resources mean? They can be divided into three large groups.

The first includes renewable resources, such as water, soil, forests, which, if used, with the right attitude to them, can be revived anew. In this case, nature protection is also understood as measures such as protecting the soil from erosion (that is, destruction), irrigation, and others.

The second group consists of non-renewable resources. These are mainly minerals: coal, oil, natural gas, ores. Their reserves in the bowels of the Earth are limited and cannot be increased.

The third group includes inexhaustible resources such as solar energy.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
