On June 27, the Catholic Church celebrates the day of memory of the seven brothers who, according to legend, during the persecution of Christians by the Roman emperor Decius (249-251), closed themselves in a remote cave in Asia Minor and slept there for 200 years. It is still believed that this day predicts the weather for the whole of July.

Mongoose robot walking through a minefield 11.11.2008

Employees of the University of Sri Lanka propose to use a mongoose connected by a leash to a sapper robot to search for anti-personnel mines.

The mongoose, with its keen sense of smell, can be trained to detect the smell of explosives, and the robot, made in the form of a disk on wheels, contains a conventional mine detector that reacts to the presence of metal parts in the soil.
