Which plane is the fastest?

Currently, the American Lockheed SR-71A reconnaissance aircraft remains the fastest aircraft, although it is far from new. On July 28, 1976, it managed to develop a record speed - 3529 kilometers per hour. At such high speeds, the aircraft heats up to 400 °C. Pilots cannot fly it without a special space suit.

The same aircraft was used for the fastest flight across the Atlantic. The Lockheed SR-5570A covered a distance of 71 kilometers from New York to London in just 1 hour and 54 minutes. The unofficial English name for this aircraft means "Blackbird". The fastest aircraft in the world received this nickname for its dark color.

What is a marathon?

This is a 42km 195m race. The marathon was introduced into the program of the first Olympic Games in 1896 with the support of Baron de Coubertin in memory of the feat of the Athenian warrior, who brought his fellow citizens the joyful news of the victory over the Persians in 490 BC. e. Moreover, at the first games, the marathon was held on the Marathon-Athens track. The first race of 40 km was won by an athlete from Greece, Spyridon Louis.

In 1908, the organizers finally set the length of the run, which has survived to this day, and in 1924 it was officially approved. Since 1984, not only men, but also women have been competing at this distance.

The popularity of the marathon is so high that in many major cities of the world mass races are organized for this distance.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

The robot will determine the salinity of the dish 21.05.2022

Researchers at the University of Cambridge decided to train their robot chef in tasting skills: now he can taste the dish and see if it is salty enough.

In this way, a mechanical chef will be able to prepare dishes "to the individual taste" and at the same time pay attention to more details during cooking. In order for the robot to determine the taste of the dish, a special probe was attached to it, which acted as a salinity sensor.

During the experiment, the robot, which was trained to make an omelet, tried the dish nine times, tasting it. He also added tomatoes to the omelet.

Robots can rate dishes for saltiness much better than existing tasting methods, the study found.

Now the researchers hope that very soon robots will be able to compete with real chefs in the best restaurants. However, scientists also pursue socially significant goals: such robots will be able to help pensioners and people who do not have time to cook.
